X-pen liner

What do you use for a liner for your x-pen dwellers? I have been using plastic sheeting underneath fleece blankets. This is because they will chew on carpet. I They love to chew holes in the plastic sheeting so that they have an "underground" tunnel. I have plenty of tunnels and places for them to hide as well as it is attached to a large two story hutch. I am worried about the ingesting the plastic sheeting, their ability to chew on the carpet and because they (once and a great while) will pee outside the litterbox and I do NOT want that absorbed into the carpet.

Layer up cardboard and then plastic under that. The cardboard can be replaced as needed and is inexpensive.
