Hello everyone!

I was wondering if someone could help me identify my rabbit. I recently adopted her from HRS at the end of November, and her paperwork said both her breed and age were unknown. She is a mixture of colors: Gray, white, black, and some brown spots in random places. My guess is Chinchilla but I could be wrong. My sweet girl loves her cheek rubs, ear massages and just an all around snuggle bunny. I had asked the vet if she could guess at the age but all she could give me is between 1-6 years of age. I'm hoping someone could help me with this mystery!

Hello
This rabbit looks like a mixed breed
The color is Silver-tipped Black Steel (not Chinchilla - but very similar. Chinchillas have white bellies and white inside the ears, as just some of the differences)
The steel gene is very common in New Zealands and related meat breeds. She could be a cross between a New Zealand and a Chinchilla, but honestly you'd be best just saying 'mixed breed', there are a lot of breed combinations that could make a rabbit that looks like this.

Thank you for this, it's an eye opener as I have not heard of a Black Steel before (I didn't see it listed on the ARBA site). She does indeed have white on the inside of her ear but I've never checked her belly (I try not to pick her up too much unless necessary) but I believe you're right about her being a mixed breed.

She’s beautiful! She definitely looks like a mix, but I’m not too good at guessing breeds unless they are the really common ones. I love her colouring. I have a chinchilla boy (who can be such a rascal) but he doesn’t have the same colourings as your doe. She could be a mix of colours?
She looks great though!
I found this website for you to see if he colour is on there: https://bundlesofbunniesrabbitry.weebly.com/rabbit-colors.html

As for her breed, it’s quite hard to tell. But here are some sources to help!

I hope this helps at least a little! You could try going to a different vet maybe (I’m not saying your one is bad but you may get a different answer) and see what they have to say. Or try an animal shelter that has a lot of rabbits?

By the way, the picture is of my chinchilla coloured bunny

Definitely a mix breed, but perhaps some silver fox in there? I have two and they have the same silver dusting

Thank you! I'll definitely check out those links. As for the vet, it was the VCA I went to which is a little too far but at the time was recommended by HRS since they were closer. I plan to see if the local exotic vet is able to take in new patients.

Your boy is SO handsome by the way. He looks so plushy, I love it!

Interesting, I've never even thought about silver fox. Most of the photos I had found for that particular breed had buns that were more darker in color so I didn't even think about that!
