Just found this on another forum.

Note: File contains slightly graphic images
The report says it all (unfortunately it is a big file - 10MB but a MUST READ for those who have the VHD vaccine done) http://www.englishrabbit.org.uk/cylapreport.pdf

There is an alternative which has no known serious side effects (mild infertility and fur loss can be expected, as with any vaccine). When you get your rabbit vaccinated against VHD please, please ask for Lapinject not Cylap.
Lapinject shouldn't cost any more then Cylap, but if it does it will only be by a few £.

Wow, that's scary. Especially since Barney and Snowy had their VHD vaccination (Cylap) yesterday!

Mouse and Chalk did really badly with theirs last December. They both had achey paws, both the same paw, for over a day, which then went away on it's own. And they were both really quiet and depressed for about a week. They were eating, but only enough to keep them going rather than their usual amount. Eventually they snapped out of it but it was scary. Barney and Snowy are doing great and don't seem any different but they were fine with it last year too. Mouse and Chalk have had problems both times now and I'm wary of letting them go through that again. I'll definitely be talking to the vet about the alternative one next time!

I thought it was common knowledge that the Cylap vaccine has potentially awful side effects? It's definitely been posted on here a few times, but then I guess this is a US based forum so alot less members are affected by it on here. That's no criticism of the forum or anything.

I have had some nasty side effects from the Cylap with mine. Badger got bald patches all over him and Cloud and a Dopey both had pretty nasty localised reactions.

After discussing this with my vet, all my buns under 1.7kg get a half dose. This still covers them but doesn't blitz their body as badly (The smaller the rabbit, the worse the reaction, and the bigger the rabbit, the lesser the reaction, to no reaction). We've been doing that for nearly 2 years now and not had any bad side effects from it so far.

For those in the UK interested, there are an awful lot more posts about this on RU http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/ because it is a UK based forum and obviously more people have to deal with the side effects.

Yeah, I've heard quite a few times about the adverse effects of Cylap. There are problems with getting Lapinject done though, one of which is that they come in doses of about 8 (I think) but have to be used soon once they have been opened. So, if you are only getting 1 or 2 rabbits vaccinated, its not cost-effective for the vets to use Lapinject, because the rest of the doses would go to waste.

Millie has had Cylap for going on 8 years now though and has never had any issues, so she will continue to use Cylap.:)

We have 2 man made virus's released in Australia which is why my bunnies are permanently living inside.

Bunnies are a pest here, and in plague proportions however the virus's they released are just down right cruel and horrific.

Only one can be vaccinated for Calivirus, which can lead to them getting really sick.

Myxomatosis can't be immunised against and is transmitted by mosquitoes.

Its not very nice for bunnies here :(
