So, Charlie was at the vet again last Friday, and of course it was another expensive visit.

I realized that I've never spent less than $250.00 for a bun vet visit. Ever!

My vet (group) is reputedas the "be all end all" of rabbit savvy in my area, so I dunno.

So I was just curious about the average vet visit for all the other bun lovers in the world...or at least this forum.

I'm also interested because when people ask me about what's involved in owning a rabbit, my response always includes the costs of vet care. Just wondering if my vet visit costs are in the norm or if I'm freaking people out needlessly

I made a poll too so that you don't have to publicly post ya business if you don't want to.

Ahhhh, the price of love :heartbeat:

Thanks!

Depends. What is being tested, etc. Blood panel, basic examcan rangefromabout $100 - 160ish, but not sure with your vet;). Check different costs with your area.

I haven't had any unexpected costs to deal with, so mostly check up and spay/neuters for me.

A regular check up is about $60 per rabbit. Spaying and neutering is about $150-$250.

At my vet an emergency (without appt) would cost $80 and up depending on what is needed. I just hope I never have to find out how much exactly.

I know what you mean, but when it comes down to an emergency? That can cost upwards of $500:shock:. Seriously, I had one that I found out had heart failure, which cost a pretty bundle, then my Miss Ang, who never cost me hardly anything the entire time I had her. So, just act quick, if need be;).

Just as a measure: I adopted Angel about 4.5 years ago. I found a tumor on her, that was removed and everthing was about $550. Then, very recently, at the emergency vet, it was $338.00. So, not much in the almost 5 years I had that precious bundle of love:inlove:.

Depends where you go. One place cost Pebbles $63 and a different place cost $45 for annual exams.

I spent around $300 for several check ups, medicine, and a culture test for Pebbles sneezing since August/07.

Then I spent $255 for Bebe's spay in Sept/07.

I believe it's about $50-60 for a full appointment at my vet clinic, and about $110 for a spay or neuter (including pain meds).

I'm not sure what any other costs are, as I've not really used any of their other survices.

Well, I suppose it's really not all that cut and dry. Labs, X-rays, etc...all come into play somewhere. :?

And then there's the "sickly" buns...the one's, like my heart failure bun Buddy, who received several thousand dollars in care during his last 3 months of life.

Carmel is so healthy, she has annual check-ups and that's about it. Biggest expense from her was 5 years ago at her spay. So I guess things balance out overall.

Thanks guys!

At my vet's, (and I LOVE my vet!) I pay around $40.00- $50.00 for a check-up. Generally, it's the medications, tests and bloodwork that cost the most. That can raise the bill to hundreds.

We have a rabbit veteranary specialist in our area. THAT will cost you BIG bucks just to walk in the door. I already know I can't afford her. (A spay and aftercare is almost as much as a mortgage payment for me.) She also does not believe in letting me treat anything myself, until she has "evaluated and assessed the situation". She has fits if I tell her that I gave the rabbit symethicone for gas or pumpkin for stasis. (I need a vet willing to work with me and my rabbits...):sickbunny:

(I couldn't answer the survey... I could check off every catagory!)

A neuter/spay at my vet runs about $250-275. That includes check-up, anesthetic, meds. I haven't had them in for a regular check-up. Bob just turned a yeard old, so I figure he ought to go in soon.

Rilee (knock on wood) has only had to go to the vet a few times. Once she needed an x-ray, so that visit was over $200. For a check-up, I think it was around $50? And then of course her spay, which I've actually forgotten how much it was, but it was a couple hundred. Other than that, we've only gone for nail trims which are an average of $10.

Wow, I must be really lucky. For just the visitat my vet's is $24, an x-ray is $60, neuter is $55 and spay is $70. Of course, if it was more for these things, I never would have been able to afford to have more than one or two bunnies.

My vet isn't as cheap as GG's but it's not far off. Luna's molar grind, with anesthesia and pain meds, was only $52. Friday's visit was about $150, but they did complete blood tests, an xray, pain killers, and Critical Care.
