Upshot:

Romaine shipping has resumed following last week's recall.

The FDA's investigation linked the E. coli outbreak to regions in California. The FDA stated, “There is no recommendation for consumers or retailers to avoid using romaine lettuce that is certain to have been harvested from areas outside of the Central Coast growing regions of northern and central California.”

There's a new voluntary labeling program to give harvest dates & regions, but it's not clear to me whether it will impact "loose" romaine that's not fully packaged (i.e., the heads of romaine with only a small plastic wrap around it), or if grocery stores will take the initiative to put signage with this information next to their loose romaine.
