I went to clean Musti's living space and himself as i always do right after school. With terror, i noticed that his right eye was shut tight and he wouldn't open it at all. Grimy ooze-y thing was also all around his eye. He even bumped into me because of his shut-eye thing.

All vets are closed for the weekend...
Is there anything else i can do to help besides waiting?

A warm washcloth on it to see if it will loosen and open up. Don't rub it, just put it on there and gently go across it.

You can clean his eye with warm boiled water or strong black tea (no sugar), make a compress for a few minutes holding him on your lap. Use cotton wool or clean soft cloth.

Thank you so much for the reply! I'll try it out!
What could be the cause of it though? He was O.K in the morning..

So, i did the warm towel thing and he opened his eye ever so slightly. A short while later it was closed and dirty once more.
Any help?

Yes, if that didn't work it's likely its not just allergies. It could be something in his eye, dental problems, or even (I hope not) something underlying. Only a vet would be able to know for sure. And I wouldn't advise trying to pull it apart to see as you could damage the eye.

Hi. We don't know what caused this and what is condition of his eye, it is hard and even dangerous to advise in this case because we just don't want to make it worse. As mentioned above there could be many reasons why it happened, allergies, damage, dirt, teeth problems, he needs to be examined by a specialist and after it is clear what the problem is it can be cured. A little careful cleaning won't hurt but he really needs to be observed by a professional as soon as possible.

You can check his teeth if you see them deformed or overgrown that may be why, but there could be some other problems as well.
Maybe it's just something in his eye, piece of straw or dust, in this case you just make a compress a few times a day and he should be fine. But maybe the eye is damaged and needs urgent surgery - it could be an emergency.

The vets are all closed for the weekend! We have no 24\7 places to go to either! His front teeth seemed normal, and only vets can check back teeth.
Dad said that if he was the same or worse tomorrow, we would check if there are any vets open further away.

I didn't try to pry his eye open, when he decided to open it slightly by himself, i took a look. I couldn't make anything out of it, but at least the eye didn't seem red or swollen. Though i think there were some dirt? Or idunno what? particles on his third eyelid. If nothing goes better, or if he's even worse, we'll take him to the vet asap tomorrow.

I would never. Something that is closed, is closed for a reason and it would be extremely wrong to try and force it to open up. And i'm aware that you knew. I appreciate the thoughtfulness.
Just being curious here, but what made you say that "it's not just allergies"?

You can wash the eye with saline solution and try to keep it clean around the eye.

Maybe he have something in the eye, at least saline solution can kill microorganisms a bit. Not that much but better than only water :3

It’s like when you clean baby’s eyes with saline solution if they get eye infections ^^

I hope everything’s goes well with your bunny.

What exactly are saline solutions?
Salt water?

Yeah it’s salt water : 0,5 liter bowled water with 1 tsp salt ^^

If it were allergies it would have most likely not have came back that fast. But I could be wrong as I'm not a vet. But usually when my rabbits get stuff in their eyes it comes out with a quick wipe and doesn't come back for a while

Well, it seems that he might've just poked his eye with straw or something in his hay-he was staring at me with both eyes wide open today

Still i'm worried about the puffy belly-it's gone stiffer again but dad doesn't mind.

But if he's doing all other buny stuff normally, i shouldn't be worried, right?
