Fenwick has a chronic runny nose, and he scratchesit until it bleeds. My first thought was pasteurella, but his sister isnext door, nose to nose, and she hasn't caught it. I think he might beallergic to his bedding (straw) because he gets it bad when there'sstraw in his box. But he needs the warmth (fine fur without muchundercoat). He almost died of cold this winter. Any ideas on goodbedding that would be warm and non-allergenic? He's otherwise veryhealthy--doesn't affect his appetite or anything else. A breederthought it might be a nervous habit???

What kind of bedding is Carefresh, and where do you get it?

He's 3 1/2, and gets the sniffles pretty much every winter. Doesn'tbother him much, unless it's really cold. He doesn't sneeze, though.

Newpapers are just as effiecent as straw. You cancrumple them and put them in his box or you can shred it into londstrips and put it in his box. You should take him to your vet thoughjust like trixiesowner instrusted.

The fact that the bun next to him doesn't have it, is not conclusive evidence that he is free ofpasturella. Some buns' natural immunity systemarestronger than others for many different reasons.

The observation that the runny nose intensifies with the addition ofstraw is certainly worthwhile. Why not hay, instead of straw,or towels, blanket.or dinner place mats We buy some of theseitems at yard/tag/garage/flea market sales expressly for the rabbits'use. It they become soiled, they get thrown out because thecost is so low inititally.

The only way to categorically eliminate pasturella as a cause is to do a nasal culture.
