For anyone who is a fan of Big Red (scroll down and click play on the video to see the trailer):

I can't wait to see this movie! I hear it's coming out this October. It's actually based around the story of Penny Tweedy taking over her father's horse business, and the subsequent story of Secretariat intertwining it. :)

(As a personal aside, I was 15 when I saw Secretariat (on tv, bless the Wide World of Sports!) run the Triple Crown. Not long afterward I wrote to Penny Tweedy to ask her how one gets into the horse racing business - yeah, I had wanted to be a jockey back then - and she wrote me back a wonderfully encouraging letter. Of course I never did follow my dream, but was thrilled that Penny Tweedy had bothered to respond to me.)

I love horse racing movies, so I will definitely be seeing this one! Looks to have quite a few great actors as well. I just had to watch his Belmont Stakes race after the trailer, it always gives me chills. :)

still gives me chills to think about him thundering down the stretch...
Me too! I still remember my reaction when watching that race too. I was planted in front of the tv on a footstool, and my dad, sister, and my friend were all watching the race as well. My dad was yelling up a storm over it, but me...I was so dumbfounded that I honestly couldn't make a sound. Totally stunned by what I'd just seen. And I remember the day Secretariat died too...I'd been on the phone talking to my sister and had the tv on in the background, with the news broadcasting, and just happened to catch the newsman state, "And Secretariat, the horse who became famous by winning the 1973 Triple Crown, was humanely euthanized today at the age of 19". Oh, that hit me hard. I had tears running down my cheeks as I tried to explain to my sister - a non-horse fan - why I was suddenly crying. (LOL...to this day she still doesn't understand. ;)) While I knew I probably would never get there, in my heart I'd wanted so badly to go to Kentucky and see Big Red in person.

btw, even though the race announcer said Secretariat had won the Belmont by 25 lengths, that was an estimate...they determined not too long after the race that the official winning length was 31 lengths. I also remember them saying many years ago that the cameraman who was filming the race had to pan back as far as his camera would allow, just to be able to get all of the horses into the shot, because Secretariat's lead was so huge. And from what I understand, Ronnie Turcotte never once used a whip on him...he just 'hung on for the ride'. Penny Tweedy later said that as she was watching them come round the final turn for home, she was just praying that Ronnie wouldn't fall off. :biggrin2: (P.S. Watch the Preakness too...I absolutely loved Big Red's come-from-behind surge! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEOlWDz2KBw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEOlWDz2KBw[/ame])

Dang...all these years later and I still get emotional about that horse.
