littlefoot is still hangin on, hes still havin trouble going potty but is still drinking. havent seen him eat much but i did leave for abit to get bedding n food today. i had to gently press his belly for him to pee. i talk to my sister. she has bunnies too. she had a female that a little girl squeesed with her thighs and broke her back. she said she could barely move but her uper body and eat or drink. she lost her soon after the insident. she had internal bleeding.she says littlefoot looks much better then hers did. it did happen friday and it is sunday so maybe there is still hope for him. i know im not ready to give up on him yet.
littlefoot is still hangin in there. i let him out last nite to see what hed do. and he did try to move around abit. dragging his back legs. i'll change avater with a pic from last nite. i called around to vets nobody can tell me much without looking at him. say it will cost 24-35 for visit and over 100bucks or more for exrays. and none take payments. the one vet told me of a baby bunnie they had in a week a ago that broke its back that ate n everything but there wsnt much they could do for it. unless u wanted to spend tons of money on pins n needles sugery to repair it so he may walk again. i just wish i could take him just to make sure he has no internal injuries. but i have to say they dont sound hopeful. and i just dont have the money to take him so they can say they cant do anything. so unlessby some miraclei canget the money. i am just going to take care of him myself. and do everything i can to help him at home and god willing my little fighter makes it. i had a hamster beat the odds i think littlefoot is capable of doing so too. i may try to bandage his back later and let him out again to see if it helps him. im praying its just pulled or sprained or maybe its his legs n not his back. ray:i have some errands i want to go see my gram at nurcing home her bday was thursday. i will be back soon! i wont leave littlefoot alone for long! i want to thank u all for ur support and prayers! your helping us alot by giving me someone to lean on! sometimes others dont understand the love of our bunnies! ttys
Along with owning animals, comes vet care. You need to be prepared for it.
I am betting 80% that Little Foot is in pain. He needs to be on pain meds. Rabbits do not sit like that unless there is something very obviously wrong. If you can't help him with taking him to a rabbit savvy vet, then I highly suggest turning him over to a rabbit rescue that will help him or having him humanely euthanized. You have to think of HIM right now. Eating very little is a sign of pain.
hi all, littlefoot ate a few pellets earlier today. i have done a lot of searching and reading on back injuries in bunnies today. and found alot of useful info including a disabled bunnies group. i even read on a rescue site about a bunnie with simular injury. and was sitting the same way littlefoot does. and with 500 bucks worth of surguery was healed. as i cant afford the surgury i cant do that. but i read it was a dislocated hip an something else. ive also talked to someone on the group that has a bun that was attacked by a dog also and it is fine and uses a doggie wheelchair. since i know he is being such a good sport an being spoliled rotten. i have hope afterall. i know its only been a few days. but atleast now i have some options and am still searching for all info on how to care fora disabled bunnny. i apreciate all your support and advice and will keep u informed on howhe is doing.
Some bunnies who use wheelchairs must see a vet first, though. And wheelchairs can cost just as much as surgery can I bet you that that bunny you're talking about who uses a wheelchair now, he went and saw the vet when he was attacked...and now he uses the wheelchair.
Just curious, how old are you? I mean I know you're old enough to have kids, etc...but do you think your parents/friends could help you pay the vet bills or anything?
Poor Littlefoot....I hope he gets better, but like everyone else is saying, he really needs to see a vet. To make him comfortable, bed him down with some hay.
i am 37 will be 38 next mth. and no i only have my mom alive. i lost my father 2 mths ago to cancer. no they cant help i already asked. . i dont have many friends to ask for help either. most of my friends are online.
There are many places you can contact who may help you pay for emergency vet care. I know it seems like a long shot. As others have stated, he is most likely in pain, and you need to get him help ASAP. We have all had hard financial times, and not having money makes it HARDER to get the help you need, but not impossible.
Have you seen the dog around? I would ask neighbors, etc. and see if anyone knows where the dog came from and see if you can locate the owners. If you can locate the dogs owners, and tell them whats happened they would be obligated to pay for vet care. You also have a witness in the neighbor who pointed out where the dog had taken or chased your bun in case the dog owners don't believe you.
thanks, no i havent seen the dog around but i am watching for it. he doesnt seem to be in much pain today. he ate some hay an pellets abit ago. and i had him out of cage for abit. i put a rug in half the cage so its softer for him.i updaed avater with new pic of him abit ago. thanks for the links i will check them out. maybe i can find some help with one of them.
Motrin or Ibuprofen is better than aspirin (they're anti-inflamatories) although the latter will do in a pinch, but if there is any chance of surgery -- and there is here -- don't give him any. It takes a while to leave the system too I think.
