My rabbit Alfalfa has a jaw abscess on the right side near the upper part of his mouth that won’t go away. I’ve already had it lanced and drained twice and both times it returned. I asked my vet to maybe prescribe a different kind of antibiotic I can administer after the operation but all she knows is the antibiotic baytril for rabbits. Does anyone in this forum know what other antibiotic or medication I can have prescribed for him after getting the abscess lanced and drained?

Abscesses are difficult to treat in rabbits, and often reappear. Since it’s close to the jaw, has your vet done an X-ray to make sure the abscess doesn’t involve the teeth and/or jaw bone?

There are other antibiotics but it depends on the bacteria found and if the bone is involved. You can read more information by going to www.medirabbit.com and search for abscess.
