Question about bedding for outdoor bunnies

I notided that a lot of the bunny owners here only put bedding or litter in the toilet area/litter tray then have the rest of the cage area clean (with some softy stuff for cuddles/sleeping too). Is this feasable for outdoor bunnies too, or do they need the extra insulation?

My outdoor buns all have a place to snuggle and I give them hay for that, and in the winter, I give them MOUNDS of hay. Thankfully they mostly know which is for the toilet and which is for snuggling.
