So I have a bonded pair, one is 2 years and the other is 9 years. My younger bun has only ever known being with his partner and I fear that when the older one passes he won’t cope well. I’ve been on the internet for quite a few months trying to gain information on what to expect. My only question now is, should I get another rabbit before my older bun passes so my younger rabbit isn’t alone?

No. Don't get a 3rd rabbit because the mere presence of a 3rd rabbit can disrupt or break an existing bond. That would probably be the last thing you want. ;)

Just let time take its course. If one passes, it's often good to give the other one some time to 'get' that the other one is actually gone. It could take a few weeks or a couple months. Then you can look to a rabbit rescue to find another already-fixed rabbit (possibly even the same age as your remaining rabbit).
