Help. The emergency vet doesn’t see Rabbits. We have been waiting to get into exotic animal vet for over a week and her eye has progressively gotten worse. It was first swollen shut but after warm tea treatments and some coconut oil daily it seemed to be getting better. Then we went out of town and family who watched her tried to do the same treatment but it got much worse. This morning when I went to work on it I noticed the skin was coming off below her eye. I trimmed off that fur but she clearly has an issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

Her teeth are okay? I’ve never had a serious eye problem with my bunnies but I hear If teeth are too long they cause problems. All I can say is I’d try to keep it clean and dry

Do you know what caused the infection originally? If it was an injury or something unknown? I have had success with using a warm compress (soft cloth soaked in almost hot water, then squeeze out most of the water and hold gently to the area), then saline drops (I use nasal drops from the pharmacy) to clean the area, and a little triple antibiotic ointment. You only need a tiny bit, too much sometimes makes it worse if they try to scratch it off.

Thank you so much for your advice!

In the past ive wiped the area around and eye lid with colloidal silver and the put neosporn with pain relief.
