Pine cones

Went to Trader Joe today and in the front door they had bags of massive pine cones. Bought a bag for Dortmund but when I got home I saw that they are Cedar-Balsam pinecones. I vaguely remembered that Cedar is bad for Dortmund’s respiratory system, unless it has been heated.

Are the pine cones safe?

Pine cones are safe but I try to avoid using ones that are sold in stores for the holidays, as they often have preservatives and scents on them that can hurt the rabbits - in that case, that is what I suspect the 'cedar-balsam' is, is a scent so I would avoid these
