WOW Jim!!

School and the like must have you quite wrapped up, I came on here thinking there would be days of catch-ups for October already

and :bunnydance:it seems I am the first!

How the heck is everyone and their furkids?

I know mine must be pouting, since here in crazy Calgary the sky has turned that ominous grey/white colour with promises ofsnow and we don't have a balcony in this place that we rented for them to play in the snow :(nothing like home...a safe contained snow filled balcony. Ahh well...1 down, 11 more to go.

AND they have this place called Petland here, where one is just able to pick up and hold and get all attached to the gorgeous, sweet lovable buns here..not fair I tell you.

Happy Monday

Hi Cher!

No snow here yet. We had some rainy nights, and I was worried about it freezing on the roads overnight. My wife was in Calgary on Saturday. She was helping her brother move some furniture back to Edmonton.

I was at Petland a few years ago. I knew some of the breeders that sold their rabbits to the store.

After last year's October having so many non-fond memories, today changed October's bad name.

I don't have a picture of mine, but this will do for now.. ;)

It's got the brand new smell cause... well it is. :D:D:D

Gah! October has come round really quickly. Umm, I think that's because the end of September saw me on Morphine as my back was playing up .. glad I've got myself off of that though. I'm sure it has it's place, but aswell as getting rid of the pain, it turned me into a suicidal zombie .. it has NOT been nice .. lol ...

Happily to tell you all I have come through the dark spot .. and the big black dog that was on my shoulder is no longer the size of a Wolfhound, but rather dachshund like.

Whata week...

As many of you know, I had my thyroid removed last Friday because of cancercous tumor that was found earlier this year. Well lets just say the week following the surgery has been horrible. The surgery itself went well, no major complications -- they did not damage my vocal chords or my parathyroid which is good. Despite the fact that my parathyroid was not damaged in any way (it controls the calcium and my blood tests the whole time were normal) I still suffered the symptoms of a sever lack of calcium the first night in the hospital. My entire body went numb and they gave me high doses of calcium intravenously and about 8 hours after the numbness started, I finally regained feeling in my entire body. Once again, I was the oddball in the group who still suffered the symptoms without actually having the issue.

If that was not bad enough, I also got extremely sick from morphine and opted to try a different pain killer. In the morning I took Percocet before they sent me home and normally this does not make people nautious, I was so sick that they had to give me IV Gravol. But to make matter worse, as soon as they started giving me the Gravol, my IV started to hurt so bad that I couldn't stand it.

Eventually I did get home and they put me on high doses of calcium as they do with all patients with this procedureas a precaution. Well normally this does not affect people in the short term and your body just flushes the extra calcium out without an issue. Well I suffered severe nausea, fatigue, muscle weakness, tiredness, and my heart was racing all week before we got an appointment with the specialist because I was so sick I could not get out of bed let alone function. And with H1N1 in our region, I was too afraid to go to Emergency. Well by fluke the night before I forgot to take a calcium supplement and low and behold, the next morning I felt almost back to normal. So off to the doctor we go and I tell them this and they assure me it is extremely unlikely it was the calcium bothering me. So to prove them wrong I went home and took the dosages they recommended and sure enough, within 12 hours I was sicker than a dog. And in a matter of hours after stopping the calcium, I was back to feeling well again.

So the moral of the story I guess is you know your body best and despite the fact that doctors refused to believe I had actually correctly diagnosed my issue, I now know I am correct. I also know that I appear to always be in the minority for odd reactions to drugs. I mean, who would have figured that a vitamin would have had such a huge effect on my well being.

And despite feeling so sick, I stayed in line for 4.5 hours yesterday to receive the H1N1 vaccine because it is raging through my school. At least they were considerate and gave me a chair because I had so recently had surgery.

And we all know the loss of Naomi was just the icing on the cake of a very bad month.

I can't say I am sad to see October go, here's to a much much better November.:toast:

Oh Laura, sorry I missed this! Really hope you're feeling better. My Mom always reacted badly to calcium as well, and she just refused to take it. And it took a lot of fiddling before she was able to take morphine without nausea. They would give it to her in tandem with another drug, but I don't know the name. (They tried a Fentnyl patch at one point, and that was the worst). People react differently.

So sorry about Naomi. :( Must have been tough being so sick yourself and having a sick bunny.

Please take care of yourself. I'm sure the worst is behind you.

One of my co-workers got his H1N1 shot (he wasn't a high risk person),but he said it made himill for three days.

Thank you everyone, that was an interesting/horrible week but I guess I just got to keep looking to the future and sooner or later it will get better.

On a plus note, I am starting my apartment hunt. I intend to move out on my own come January so that I can be closer to school and so all my bunnies can be indoor bunnies for a while.

I know a few people who had mild reactions like that to the vaccine, but then again they also have the same sort of reaction to the regular flu shot.

Most people I know are just suffering from a very sore arm. It's like the tetnus shot. I got the shot on Friday, my arm was sore in 6 hours and it's STILL sore but slowly improving. I can at least sleep on my left side again.
