Hey everyone, so yesterday my rabbit gave birth to 5 healthy babies! She’s doing well and so are her kits. I have yet to see her feed them but I check their bellies regularly to see if they are round like they should be after a feeding, so far I don’t think they have been fed but I’m hoping she will do it soon.

Quite likely you wont see her nurse for some time, my does do not nurse while anyone is around. Prey animals. Also, it can take up to 24h for the milk to drop.

What she needs is food, rest and privacy. So, after an initial check to clean the nest I would leave them alone for some days. Checking on the kits regularily, more than once or maybe twice a day, is counterproductive, they need their sleep and nest warmth.

They are pretty good at raising kits, but that little voice in their heads, their instincts, telling them what to do can be droned uot by too much meddling.

So, relax, and let her do her thing :)
