Hi all,

I am bringing in a second bunny and I'm wondering how many litter boxes I'll need. If it makes any difference I have a male and a female and I'm planning to keep them in one pen.

Thanks so much!

If you don't have a lot of space I'd just recommend 1 litter box per bunny. If you had more space for example a room, then I would use the cat litter box rule of 1 box per cat + 1 extra.

My bonded pairs always shared one litter box -- easier cleanup for me ;) .

The cage door is open all day long and still, only used one box -- just the one in the cage. If they are bonded, they will share a box. Just be sure it is large enough. (Larger boxes last longer between cleanings as well.)

Until the 2 are bonded, they should be housed separately and so will each need their own box in their separate areas, of course.

and this shot was before hay was put in the litter box...

My 2 rabbits have the option of 3 litter boxes in their enclosure, we had them all from babies so added extra to help with training. They are bonded and fixed and now they use two out of the three litters regularly. If you have a particularly dominate bun they might stop the submissive one from using the litter at the same time so it’s good too have the choice of two at least so have one each if necessary.
