Well, this is the day I've always dreaded - whenone of my bunnies goes into GI stasis. Muff has been moltingpretty heavily, so I'm not that surprised. But this is myfirst time dealing with it, and although it seems like I've read abouteverything there is to read about it, I still feel at a loss.:(

She hasn't stopped pooing altogether, but they are tiny andfew. And she hasn't stopped eating completely...she's eatingsome leafy greens (with water on them) and a tiny bit of hay, but notpellets or even oats. I knew something was wrong when shewouldn't eat her oats because she always goes berzerk for them.

I'm not sure whether to give her pineapple juice or not sincethis article sayssugar is "just about the last thing you want to add to a compromisedrabbit's intestine." But if I do, is the frozen kind okay(100% pineapple juice from concentrate, the kind you mix withwater)? There are not any fresh pineapples at the grocerystore right now.

I don't have simethecone either (should've stocked up before thishappened!), but she doesn't seem to be in pain at all and is runningaround like her usual active little binkying bunny self. Idid give her a tummy massage anyway, though, and she seemed to like it.

Well, I don't want this post to get too long... I'm just kinda nervousand wanted to ask for any prayer, support, tips or advice you have tooffer.

P.S. I cut her hair. Poor thing, she looks likeSebastian right after one of his hair cuts, except only along the frontand sides where it's the most wooly and where she licks themost. I did a terrible job. :(

Look for the canned pineapple in its own juiceand use that. Also, you probably want to see the vet to getthe medications. Is she stops eating you will need to forcefeed her critical. You may be able to force feed parley toher.

If she stops drinking you may nee to have the vit give her IV fluids, and they can give it to you and you can do it yourself, it is not hard.

Ed

Thanks, I've been giving her some water throughthe syringe, and also canned pumpkin. How many times a dayshould I do this?

Oh Doodle,

I'll definitely be praying for you. Will pull up an old thread Icreated when Tucker was going through it. It'll say Tucker's havingTrouble - GI stasis. Check out page 10 or the very last page and it'llgive you portions and amounts.

When the animal hospital told me not even bother to bring him in asthere was nothing else that could be done, it was the combination ofthe things I used that is listed in that thread that got him through.Every 4 hours, with some ingredients, I had to give him treatments, soyup, definitely was getting up in the middle of the night.

Will absolutely keep you and your little one in my prayers. Keep the faith, and let us know how it's going.

P.S. I'm told that the frozen pineapple juicedoesn't cut it. Could be wrong on that front, but from what the doctorsand a rabbit specialist told me, it's got to be fresh pineapple juicefor the enzymes.

I'd pick up some simethicone tomorrow and give it to her as soon as youcan. It certainly can't hurt her even if she doesn't need it. It canonly help relieve some gas/pain if she has any.

Let her run around if she is up to it. Massaging her is a good idea, as you said you're doing.

Get some syringes if you don't have them on hand. Got to keep herhydrated as dehydration will quickly turn fatal with rabbits. If youhave some vegetables, dark greens, or fruit, see if she'll take that.

If there's a salad bar at a grocery store near you, oftentimes, they'll have fresh pineapple cut up there.

Yeah, that is right. The heating proccess foranything but fresh kills the enzyimes. Maybe go look out sometime forsome papaya enzyime tablets (I got mine from a health food store- theyreally made an improvement!)

Also, if there's no fresh ones, there is some that are freshly diced but they are abit expensive.

Try getting some cilantro as it really helped my bunny. I think thejuice pineapple that you add water to has too much added sugars in it,but I could be wrong.

This may sound odd but I had a rabbit that went through a similar thingthat sounds like GI statis, but I figured it was a fur block? Is thereany difference? Or what is GI statis different from a fur block?

When My littleJersy just went through thisthey did subQ fluids and gave himbaytrill to counter any infection he mayhave had started , its something to think aboutand its always an option .

What I did for my little guywas take parsly and soak thestem sides in cold water soit would soak up all the water itcould and gave it to him thatway. Also you can give her 2 chunks of watermelonfresh cut into small bites size pieces ,plus nutrical and 8 in 1 hairball remedy . I wouldntuse Petramalt or anyother that has petrolium in it , 8 in 1has mineral oil only , which I credit forhelping save my little guy .

This is the link to Cowboys thread onhis bout of Stasis , disregardthe argumenative stuff and Ihope you can find s omething inthere that will help .

You have been given awesome information.Carolyn's is what helped my two through stasis. I did add sugar freecranberry juice. Only to help flush the kidneys, so toxins couldn'tbuild up. Hydration is crucial. Pedialyte is also awesome for keepingthe electrolytes up.

I'll be praying for you and Muffy.

Tina

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all of you.

Carolyn, I copied the info in your Tucker thread and emailed it tomyself so I'll have it on hand (probably will print it too in a fewminutes).

I just have a question about the Simethicone - since it's Sunday, theonly thing opened today was the grocery store.. I looked forSimethicone in the pharmacy section but didn't find any. There were some other infant gas medicines, but I was afraid to buythose not knowing if they were okay. But now I'mwondering...is the product actually called Simethicone, or is it justthe active ingredient (and could be any brand)?

Tomorrow, I'll have to go to the feed store and get Nutri Cal (hope they have it).

Thanks again...

Wondered how our little one was doing as soon as I woke up, Doodle.

Yes, as Tina pointed out, the name of the item isn'tSimethicone. It can have different names, but it is theinfant gas formula you were looking at. If you flip the boxover, you'll see the ingredient Simethicone is listed.

Definitely happy you're getting Nutrical.

Keep us posted. I'm concerned and praying for your little baby.

I hope he's doing better! I've heardthat heat can sometimes help. If you have a heating pad, youcould hold him on your lap with it or put it under the floor of hiscage for a while. Fey really liked her under-the-floorheat. And if you have him on your lap you can massage hisbelly at the same time.

Hey doodle - did you find the Simethicone?

The product won't actually be called Simethicone, but Simethicone willbe the main Medicinal Ingredient. Check the box of the medsand it will list what the Active Medicianal ingredients are. That is where you'll find if it's Simethicone.

Good luck with the babe.
Hoping for poops.

Edit: Oops, Tina already answered this. :)
