Moving...protecting carpet at new place?

I am moving end of this month and the room my bunnies will be in has nice carpet....they love to dig and rip it out at the place im at now. So I want to protect the new carpet. My question is has anyone laid down linoleum over carpet? I was think doing that then buy big cheap rugs for on top.

Or does anyone have better ideas? Im at a loss here. It has to be something waterproof, I have one bunny who pees randomly out the box :/

Yes I bought linoleum and put carpet squares and rugs on top, worked well for me

I put down plywood and a plastic tarp then indoor/outdoor carpet--have also used cardboard in place of plywood.

I buy rugs on sale at the local store.

For corners and digging-prone areas like behind doors, I use ceramic tiles from Home Depot.

Hidey houses that have their own flooring, like Ikea's Hol line (search "kaninhol"), also work great if they're available in your country.
