so my 3 month old holland lop has been drinking about 4x what she should be and is peeing WAY too much, and the pees are super big and diluted. I took her to the vet praying it was a UTI but it wasn’t. They ran blood tests and her kidneys were fine but she had an abnormality in 1 liver value (rest were fine) and a low albumin count (produced in liver). Other than the excessive drinking and peeing there is literally nothing wrong with her. The vet did say that their blood testing machines have a setting or whatever for small animals but are calibrated mostly for dogs/cats, and she said if her albumin levels were as low as the test results said she wouldn’t be walking and probably wouldn’t be breathing. The vet couldn’t give me anything to treat this and said she honestly didn’t know what we could do for a rabbit.

She recommended that we do another round of blood tests and have them sent to a lab with specialized equipment. She also said we should do an ultrasound but the closest place that will do this for rabbits is over 4 hours away. I don’t know how soon I could get an appointment, how much it would cost, and I would have to rent a car for 2 days and pay for a hotel room. At the very very least it would be 3.5 weeks before I could go. My heart is physically breaking. She’s so happy and energetic and I feel like she’s going to start getting worse and die and I don’t think I could survive that. She’s literally 3 months old. She’s been gaining weight and the vet said she really believes we can get through this but she won’t say it’s going to be fine and it’s killing me.

I don’t think it’s fatty liver disease or toxic liver because she’s acting completely normally. But I will say she was on a bunch of medications right before this started (for constipation) including a painkiller. That or coccidia are the only things I can think of, although I don’t think coccidia would have randomly appeared/ wouldn’t that have shown up on blood test?

I’m going to do another round of blood tests this week and see how they turn out. I’m so sad. I lost a bunny before her and Peach is my life. She’s 3 months old and I can’t lose her. If you read all of this thank you. And if there’s someone out there somewhere that has experienced this or knows anything please please please help me. Or if I should change her diet from pellets and hay to something else? I’ve been crying since last night and this is breaking my heart. The vet told me she’s contacting a specialist at the university with ultrasound but the only thing she told me to do was keep her happy and fed and I feel like she just sent me home to watch Peach die. I know you guys understand that Peach is my entire world. She’s the most important thing in my life and I don’t think I could ever recover from losing her.

Well, as I understood from your post your rabbit acts like normal just drink too much you think and her urine is diluted. Your vet is not rabbit-savvy and don't know what that means, their machines are showing that your rabbit is literally dead because they are fitted for dogs.
I think it's just a bit too early to worry that much, firstly put your emotions aside and try to analyse facts. Maybe get second opinion of more experienced vet, here are some very educated and experienced people on this forum as well, maybe you will get some advice.
I am not that much medically educated but I imagine liver problems would cause thicker urine but you say it is diluted.
If you just sit there and cry it won't change your situation for better, so just try to keep it all together wash your face and go get some fresh air then as I said try to separate facts from feelings and evaluate your situation. I truly hope that your rabbit will be alright, she's young and strong girl 3 months old, lots of hope for her.

I had a similar problem with my Smokey last winter, as I am not a fan of official medicine myself I just made her teas with smashed fresh cranberries, without sugar, cranberries are perfect for UTI and help very quickly, just a couple days and she was alright. I gave her full berries as well, maybe 3 daily. I think it was a bit drafty where her cage was, I moved her from the floor and made her warm.

i know you’re right and I need to stay calm. But the fact is her drinking/peeing is just not normal and it’s not a UTI. I’m going to try and schedule a call with a vet at the university 4 hours away (with incredible equipment) and see what they recommend. This response was kind of sad to read but thank you for the positive thoughts.

Why was it sad to read I thought I was kinda very supportive :p or maybe you expected that I will cry with you? Honestly, there's no evidence that she has any liver problem, your vet clearly stated that they simply don't know because their results show a dead rabbit and she's doing pretty well except she drinks more than usual and pees more. There could be a problem but no need to exaggerate panic won't help at all.
I wish you every success and hope she'll be alright, good luck :)

I want to apologise I didn't mean to sound rude just wanted to help you because I think you are very upset, sorry if it was sad to read, really didn't mean it.

No no please don’t worry I didn’t think it was rude at all. It’s just hard to hear like stop being sad and be rational bc this is my literal baby so it’s really hard.

I know the albumin result wasn’t accurate. But what concerns me is only 2 things came back as abnormal and they’re both related to the liver and I just think that couldn’t be a coincidence you know?
