I adopted my bunny from the SPCA they said it's an American rabbit but it looks more like a harlequin

Looks like a rex, curly whiskers and all.

When you get a rabbit from a rescue, most time they don't really know what the breed is, so they just make a guess. Harlequin is both a breed and a color. The harlequin color has been bred into rabbits of different breeds, and like LadyGray suggests, it could be a rex with harlequin coloring, or it could be a mix of breeds. You have a very beautiful rabbit!

Thank you so much

My bunny has unusual hair it's very kinky curly is that unusual?

SPCA doesn't have a clue about rabbits, especially rabbit breeds. Americans come in blue and white; sometimes other colors will show up when crossing blues into whites but nothing crazy like this. This is harlequin color (harlequin color, not the same as harlequin the breed. The color was named after the breed). Americans are also quite a rare breed, not something that would show up in a rescue.

Your rabbit is a Rex. It might have Astrex traits with that extra kinky curly fur, but Astrex isn't an established breed in the US, just an offshoot of mini rex/rex/velveteen lop fur types though some breeders are looking into developing it.

Thank you yes I looked at the picture that's his hair all right. This is a picture of my son's rabbit they say she's a Rex but her hair is very smooth and she has a bigger body

Very good looking. All I ever cared about is healthy and happy. Niomi and SableSteel called it out perfectly. Most shelters have well meaning volunteers, but most can't even tell the sex of a rabbit. Our original Bunnicula was in the penny saver ad from the local shelter--"Mixed male mini"--she sure was mixed up alright--showed them how to tell male and female and told them to call if they had any questions. The other problem with rescues is their age--sometimes you get it and sometimes it's fill in the blank.

Rex rabbits come in two sizes. The Mini Rex is usually under 5 pounds, and the Standard Rex is usually between 7 and 11 pounds.
I must have large bunnies they're almost the same size as My chihuahua terrier mix
