I recently rescued a little rabbit from under my car it was covered in oil, I initially thought I wouldn't be able to keep him as I have a dog and a cockatiel both rescues.
I have never kept rabbits I've been doing a lot of web based research and found a lot of articles advising not to keep one alone as it gets lonely.
He absolutely loves my westie he copies everything he does, my westie loves adores him they have nap time together every day.
They play together he's really protective of him. Yesterday a cat tried to get into the garden my westie stood in front of hamish (my bunny) and started barking at the cat.
Aside from the dog he has constant attention from my partner who loves him he's built him a big run with tunnels to play in, he has the run of the house. He's constantly doing jumping around doing binkies. Getting another bunny is not an option right now due to space. Do you think he will be ok.

Sounds like he's very happy and doing just fine. We had Commander Bun-Bun for more than a year by herself and she was just fine. Tried to bond her several times and had to give it up--she was happy as a solo and would attack anything else in her house! I don't think a rock would have been safe from attack. We know of several people that have a solo bun and they are all spoiled and happy.

As long as you give him lots of company the he doesn't really need another bunny. Sounds like he has a great playmate already. The dog. I only have 1 bunny and can't have anymore at the moment ,and he is as happy as can be. Spoilt and loves human attention. they are sociable creatures but who says they have to be with other bunnies to socialise with. :)

I think it will be okay to just have one, I only have one right now and actually quite new to owning a bunny. It sounds like he has a great home and is completely happy as it is. I got mine last Saturday, and so far I'm loving every minute of it! Good luck with your bun, and also good for you for rescuing him! 😊🐇👌

Aww thanks everyone for your help, I feel a lot better now. I can't believe how easily toilet trained he is too. I love this little guy. 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰thanks so much 😀😀😀😀

I got a second bunny a few months ago, but before that Felix was perfectly happy solo. :) It's lovely to watch them together but he used to have the best time running bunny 500s and binkying everywhere on his own!

I think it depends on how much company there will be for a rabbit. My flat mate works from home and I'm currently off long term sick so Gandalf gets plenty of attention and has people around and he's always happy being a lone bunny. Saying that I do notice when I haven't spent much time in the den where he lives that when I do go in he goes nuts till I give him a hug but that might just be because he knows he often gets some beg or pellets whenever he returns to his cage. Lol

I say it depends on how much social and play time they get. I got two bunnies because my daughter goes to school from 8am - 2pm and I go to college for that same amount of time. So I figured that was too long of a time to be alone, so I got two.

With your dog already being it's friend, it isn't alone! So I say it should be ok :3

I only have Lady for now and I spend a lot of time with her so she doesn't get bored.
Hamish sounds like a happy little bunny :) And it's awesome that you rescued him!

We have 2 bunnies that don't see each other ever. Daughter does 4-h with her bun Mason and Seffie lives in the living room and in the hallway/bathroom when we let her out. Both are quite content being alone. They do sniff each others spaces from time to time and Seffie could care less whether Mason is around. Mason would love to have babies as he is shown so no girls near him ever. Both are great on their own. And Seffie loves her space.

Where i live its agaisnt the law to have 1 bun needs to be atleast 2 or more buns (this is because buns go in groups). And personally i have had 1 bunny before and i felt he was really sad being all alone without someone to play with. I think it depends on the rabbit some people have rabbits who are fine with being the only bun but there are others who need a companion. I have 2 baby bunnies and really i think they are less trouble than having 1 bun the only thing that will probably be troublesom is double the food amount and to me thats not all that bad! What you could do is have 1 bun and get another one later and try and bond them togther the choice is yours though hope that helped.

Hi everyone

Thanks very much for the lovely replies, it's a big help.
He's really sociable there's always someone at home with home with him we've always been soft touches with the dog by not leaving him on his own, so the same will apply to Hamish. He seems really happy at the moment I can't believe how lovely he is he's got lots of company and attention so hopefully he will remain happy with us.
