I have an unaltered female netherland, and she cannot be spayed. I am fostering a dwarf hotot who was neutered last Thursday, and her and him live in cages side by side- they groom, lay together, and they play through the cage. I really want to know how long I need to wait before letting them play together without the barrier as I think they'd bond quickly and if that happened I'd just consider adopting him for her.

You have to wait at least 6-8 weeks post neuter, to be absolutely certain the hormones have died down and he can no longer get her pregnant. Otherwise you risk a possible mating and pregnancy occurring. 4 weeks is sometimes long enough, but I have heard of accidental pregnancies occurring up to 6 weeks post neuter.

Once you do begin bonding, make sure to go about it properly to have the best chance of succeeding.
