I was listening to Weekend America on NPR when they had this story about farm-raised carp that had escaped into the Illinois River.
They eat everything....and nothing eats them, so they gotta go.....But not without a fight
It's like Night Of The Lepus....but its fish, and it's daytime.

Watch for the guy driving the boat @ 1:15

lol, poor guy, I couldn't hear what they were saying but it amused me anyway, lol.

We have carp in our ponds, but they certainly don't do that.

That's hilarious!

I didn't know carp jumped like that. I'm very anti-carp because they were introduced into Wisconsin waters to "feed the poor." And they're ruining good native habitat because they're so destructive! They eat lots of veggies and even tear up shoreline when they are spawning. When I interned with the DNR I helped kill them in the Horicon Marsh (internationally important for waterfowl and migratory birds) with electric fences and poison, and I cleaned carp gates that prevented them from moving from one section of the marsh to another.

Carp are eeeeeeviiiiiillllllll!!!!!! I can't even look at goldfish the same way anymore.

I live near the Pymatuning Spillway "where ducks walk on fish". http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/getAttraction.php?tip_AttractionNo==1115

The carp are so thick that it's gross. We go there a lot to feed them our old bread ;)

These fat guys can't jump out of the water like the ones in the video . . .

Here's some photos I took at a recent visit to the spillway . . .

The "bowl" area in the photo is completely filled with fish. (Close-ups below)

That's just unreal! It's really kinda creepy.
I never knew they were introduced to 'feed the poor' as NT said. hmmm I suppose the intentions were good.

On the positive side though, if there is ever a food shortage, y'all can eat fat carp!

LOL, poor guy. It's pretty funny though.

I love to go fishing, that Redneck fishing compettion would be fun. (yeah I'm a bit of a tomboy)

You know what is really cool about this whole thread? Is that John listens to NPR!
I listen to NPR on our MPR ( Mississippi Public Radio) constantly. In fact, my stereo in the Bunny ( previously living ) room is set on that station 24/7. They get to hear all the talk shows, learn many things, hear the day's news and stock reports and hear Classical, Opera and Blugrass on Sat., nights.
I just thought it cool you being younger and listening to it. Kudos to you!
