I posted a while ago about the problems I had with my rabbit Polly who developed an ulcer in one eye following her myxomatosis vaccination and an ulcer in the other eye a few weeks later. She has been back and forth to the vet's several times and we even saw the eye specialist. None of them can tell us what the underlying cause of this is.
Things have become worse now as her genitals started to swell up and and formed lesions that bleed. One of her hocks is sore too (not sure if it is related.
My vet is treating her with antibiotics and after doing a bit of research I am beginning to wonder if herpes could have caused this. I suggested it to my vet and she agreed that this could be a possibility but apparently tests have to be done in a UK lab and cost a fortune. Even if it was confirmed that herpes was the cause the treatment available would be the same as Polly is receiving now anyhow:(
I am feeling rather frustrated. As herpes is a virus as far as I recall what good would antibiotic do anyhow:?
Does anyone have advice for me or can point me to some literature on herpes in rabbits?
