So recently I was given a small breed rabbit (most likely part Netherland dwarf) who was found abandoned in a neighborhood. I put her in her own double level rabbit hutch. She escaped about a week ago and she’s just been roaming the yard. I wasn’t too worried about catching her because I didn’t want to stress her out, but today I was looking in her empty cage and on the bottom level I found 4 bunnies. The first question I have is how old do you think they are? I’ll link a picture I have of them. Their eyes are open and their hair is standing up. They’re obviously not newborn but I just cleaned her hutch a week ago (which is how she escaped) and I swear they were not there. My next question is will they be okay in the cold? It was in the 50s today (Fahrenheit) and it’s supposed to be 39 tonight. They seemed cold today so I made sure not to touch them but I put pine shavings around them. It seemed to help but then mom went in there and pushed the pine shavings away. There is nothing blocking them from the wind now. Do I need to keep them warm somehow? I’m afraid something is going to get the bunnies as well with the door open so I’ve been trying to catch mom today. Do you think catching her and locking her up with them might be too stressful and cause her to abandon them? She will come up to me but she’s very jumpy and definitely not tame. Thank you to anyone who can answer any of my questions! I’ve owned rabbits for a while but I’ve never had babies before!
