Had the euthanize my sunshine Cosmo this morning. Absolutely devastated.
So Cosmo had be falling over since about last week. I took him in and they couldn’t find anything outwardly wrong with him and his fecal test came back okay. He was eating really well and pooping so she put him on some meds for pain and a possible infection. Something to note is that he had been in for his teeth a couple weeks before this and had been doing good since. WhenI got him he was a bit underweight and stayed that why through out time together and only recently started gaining a few ounces. He also had some high liver values. All of that together she said may be cancer somewhere in his body but she wanted to do an ultrasound to check.

So I had it scheduled for November 8 since he had been doing pretty good a couple days after the initial visit. He was walking more and not falling over. But this morning he had fallen and couldn’t get up. And every time he tried he would thrash around. I rubbed him while he laid on his side but there wasn’t any kind of response.
When I picked him up to put him in the carrier to take him to the vet he was twitching in my hands, which I thought was a seizure and was confirmed later that is was.
He was laying on his side and his breathing was slow some before I had put him in the carrier and the whole ride, which was about ten minutes.

When I got there the vet gave him some meds for the seizure but said at this point there wasn’t much that could be done. She said she could send me to a specialist but she honestly didn’t think he would make it over there in his state. I’m gonna get an ultrasound done to see if it may have been a cancer but I don’t want to get a necropsy done because I don’t want anything invasive on him. We had one done on our dog years back and I don’t think I could handle it. I’m just wondering if anyone may know what this may be?
He’d been hyper since I got him and then one day he was falling over and it was as if his legs were week. I’m just so sad and empty right now. I do have another bunny, they weren’t bonded, so I’m glad to still have her but I can’t help but feel incredibly terrible about the whole situation. I just adopted him on the 7th September and I already had to say goodbye. I came to love him so much. Sorry for the huge rant I’m just hoping anyone may have a similar story and some answer and maybe a way that I can get over this grief and guilt.
Also apologies if this is in the wrong section, I can move it if need be.

I know Cosmo is hopping and running just as he loved as I type this. I hope he gets to meet and keep the company of all of my other pets that are there so he doesn’t have to feel lonely.

I’ll always love you Cos.💗🐇

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved pet is hard. Just remember you gave him a loving home and he will always be with you in your heart. Your story seems similar to how I lost my Mini Lop, Leo. He was given to me from a friend who had rescued him from another home. He too was under weight but also very active. One evening he was eating his dinner salad fell over and started shaking uncontrollably. My husband and I drove him to the emergency clinic. The clinic was an hour drive and he seizured on an off during the whole drive.
He was diagnosed with having Encephalitozoon Cuniculi.
We were able to get him treatment but we were told he had a low immune system and could have seizures again if he became stressed. We lost him 2 months later to snuffles. That was 3 years ago and I still miss him every day. He blessed our home for a short time but left us with wonderful memories.
The black bunny in the photo is Whimsey. She is still with us. The two of them bonded in one day and were so in love.
Since then we have adopted 2 other bunnies. A Holland Lop, Dusty aka Dust Bunny and a Flemish Giant, Georgie. It took months for Whimsey to bond with Dusty and about 2 years to accept Georgie but not bond.
She had one love and that was Leo.

Thank you for the kind words and for sharing yours and Leo’s story with me. I’m so sorry that you had to experience that. But from how you talk about him it sounds like he had an amazing life and family in you.💗

Your buns are absolutely adorable and I’m really glad you have such an amazing little fluffle. I wish you all years of happiness, binkies, and flops!

Thank you for sharing the pictures as well, those brightened my mood!🤗

We're so sorry you lost your little, furry bundle of happiness, it's never easy. We've rescued a lot of bunnies and had to say goodbye way more than I like to think about. The best thing you can do is to remember all the good times. We also have a Cosmo, a 6 year old rescue that looks like a tumbleweed right now--when he sheds, he looks like heck

I am so sorry for your loss! I am truly feeling your pain. When I got up this morning my disabled bunny, Naji, had passed. She had splay leg and could only scoot around. She took constant care. In the end, I feel she gave me more comfort than I did her. Again, so very sorry for your loss!

I’m so sorry to hear that. From the sounds of it it seems like you gave her just as much comfort as she did for you. I know it must have been a lot to care for your bun but your persistence and love really just shows how much you cared for her and she absolutely felt that love! Maybe she and Cosmo can meet at the rainbow bridge and play together, and binky to their hearts content.💗

Thank you so much.

I’m always happy to hear about other burns, especially other Cosmo’s.😊 I would love to see pictures of him, I bet he’s cute even when he’s a mess. I wish you even more years of happiness with him!
