That's the fact! Thousands acres of forest, fields and forage land have been given to ashes! Whole villages were wiped out of the map, millions of small, bigger wild animals and livestock died, thousands of people lost their homes and all their belongings and until now 63 people were found dead due to the fire! Ad the fire is still burning! Most of these fires where lit by arsonists for various reasons, but this is not the right time yet to talk about it! This is a real greek tragedy! Here is for more:

Please, wherever you all people are, spare a minute to pray for all this tragic situation!

wow, call me a softie but i'm tearing up a little. *prayers*
You are definately not a softie! If only you could see the disaster through my eyes! Although my home is far away from any fire, and safe i can do nothing else but share the greaf with the people in pain now! Spare the fact that all greeks mourn not only for the people, but for nature!

I had been reading about the fires and have been keeping the citizens in my thoughts and prayers. I had also wondered if we had any members from Greece.

Thank you for posting.

My fiance is there right now... It is absolutely horrible. He is working with the army and they started arming the soldiers to keep people away and find the criminals. Yesterday, a man was setting his bees free so they wouldn't die. Those people live on the sale of honey. It was sad. So many lives destroyed... And for what???

My prayers go out to beautiful Greece and her people. I, too, mourn not just for the people, but for the wildlife and plants that are suffering...

The fires are almost distinguished now, but the disaster is of biblical proportions! Greece hasn't faced a disaster of that extend since World War 2!About 70% of Peloponesse is burnt, and half of Evia as well, people there are sentenced to a difficult life because all the fields and most of the livestock are destroyed and thousands of people have lost their home and their income! The greek government is givint them 3000 euros eachfor food at least, and they promised that they are going to build all the burnt housesfrom scratch for free! But i thing this is just a promise as we are going to have elections on Sep 16th! Anyway it will take many years for these people to get their lives back! But all this is a shame for our species! Millions (!!!) of acres of land got burnt, thousands of animals, domestic and wild, countless birds and small animals, dekades of villages, houses, churches got burnt because some people just want to build their villas and manors! Even the sacred Olympian Temple, where the Olympian fire is lit every 4 years got in danger, but thankfully marble is not damaged by fire!

I am lost for words! I will send any links that describe tha situation in English!

Oh, i forgot! 2 days back a demostration was arranged for everybody who wanted to show their grief to all the big greek cities! So people gathered silent all dressed in black! The greatest on took place in Sintagma of Athens, in front of the greek parliament!
