I'm sure many have come across and heard of many bad vets, and there's even a website to alert people of them. But I want to tell you of a GOOD vet I met whilst taking my darling bun to be spayed.

He's from Sheffield, UK and is called Rob. I've never met someone so kind and caring towards an animal, from a first visit! My little bun is very cautious of new people, especially after the stress of the car journey, but loved him instantly! I was shocked!

He knew absolutely everything there was to know about rabbits, he admitted to sort of specialising in rabbits! Though firmly stated he is completely professional and gives the same care and attention to all animals. What a guy, I have to say I was slightly blushing (my boy friend found it hilarious!).

After telling him about a bald patch on my little girls left side (no signs of mites) and gave him the details he said that he would take a look under the micro-scope when she was under to make sure it was nothing serious.

Such care and dedication to the animals! So to round this story up, good vets are out there! What nice vet stories do you have?

Many years ago I had a pet ferret that started losing weight and didn't even want his favorite treat. This happened very quickly, almost suddenly. I took him to the vet I always went to. The same one we took our pets to when I was a child. Well it turned out he had cancer which happens with ferrets frequently from my understanding.

Surgery was an option but there were of course risks and the ferret was older. Also a good chance the cancer could come back plus not very good chance of him making it through the surgery.

The vet gave me time to go discuss the options with my husband at the time who was waiting in the car. I made the decision to help end his suffering. It was a very difficult decision for me. I held my buddy as he passed away. The vet and the nurses let me have as long as I felt necessary in a room with just my buddy to compose myself. They also later sent a sympathy card that included "The Rainbow Bridge".

I had also had experiences with him where he would actually pull out a text book to help explain to me what he was talking about.

With any animal he was always firm and sure of his handling of them but he always made sure to give them some pets and even snuggle at times.

I LOVE our rabbit vet in Oklahoma. She admits to have taken a few rabbit classes but I wouldnt call her an expert. What I do love about her is she'll pull out a book or "phone a friend" if she's unsure of something. I was trying to con her into removing shi shi's eye so I wouldnt have to sell my husband to pay for it at the ophthalmologist. She conferenced with another vet that I found here on RO and months later Shya is a normal healthy bun. I'm a complete and total hypochondriac when it comes to the animals and how she puts up with me is beyond me. There was also an incident that involved crying. Doc Black just rolled her eyes at me, gave me the big girl speech, and stitched up my bad rabbit for the second time. Have I also mentioned that she's terrified of rabbits? Terrified of getting bitten and understands their vindictive nature. Complete and total Vet-mance.
