My Dandelion is 11.4 years old and just started to have trouble with his back leg. I took him to the vet and he has been on Gabapentin for about a week. Has anyone had any experience with this medication for their rabbits arthritis? I read on MediRabbit.com that it sometimes leads to serious side-effects, when used for a long period of time. Does anyone know of anything better, besides Metacam? Do steroid shots help? Thanks so much for any help anyone can provide. :)

From reading the medirabbit article, it would make me nervous to use gabapentin. I've used metacam for an elderly rabbit with arthritis and it did help her. I know RO member mikescone used adequan for his rabbit with arthritis and reported really good success with it. I had tried it with my elderly rabbit, but I think I waited too long and her arthritis was too advanced before I started her on it, so it didn't really help her at that point. So maybe ask your vet about trying adequan injections instead.
