Gabapentin for arthritis

My Dandelion is 11.4 years old and just started to have trouble with his back leg. I took him to the vet and he has been on Gabapentin for about a week. Has anyone had any experience with this medication for their rabbits arthritis? I read on MediRabbit.com that it sometimes leads to serious side-effects, when used for a long period of time. Does anyone know of anything better, besides Metacam? Do steroid shots help? Thanks so much for any help anyone can provide.

From reading the medirabbit article, it would make me nervous to use gabapentin. I've used metacam for an elderly rabbit with arthritis and it did help her. I know RO member mikescone used adequan for his rabbit with arthritis and reported really good success with it. I had tried it with my elderly rabbit, but I think I waited too long and her arthritis was too advanced before I started her on it, so it didn't really help her at that point. So maybe ask your vet about trying adequan injections instead.
