My little Asti is about three months old and is some sort of lop eared rabbit. She's originally grey-chinchilla colored, but she's recently been turning lighter. Is this normal?
I believe that chinchillas do get lighter during the warmer months, although not to the extreme that sables do.
Also, at that age, your bun's probably switching to its "junior prime" coat, which is essentially just a more adult coat closer to the color it'll have for most of its life.
Spike changes colour with every shed! He goes lighter and darker and develops different patterns. Right now he has this cool Zorro type mask thing happening around his eyes. I definitely think it is normal. Spike goes from brown to gray to darker gray and back again.
Although I don't raise lops, I know this happens to my Californians in the summer time. In the winter their markings are black and in the summer time they are much lighter.
