Can someone help me figure out what is going onwith my rabbit Harley his fur around his neck is coming off.the skin is red and irritated.

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks Lauram;)

I can only venture a guess as to what might begoing on and I do recommend a trip to the vet if initial home treatmentdoes not clear it up within a week. . .

Pseudomonas bacteria is a common culprit to bacterial infections of thedewlap when it is moist (most commonly from dipping in the waterbowl). An advanced infection will turn the area green.

Trimming the fur and applying a small amount of over the counter antibacterial ointment will generally clear up most cases.

If the irritation is at the back of the neck, fur mites are often the culprit and can be treated with kitten flea powder.

Fungal infections are also not uncommon and can be a little harder toclear up. Human antifungal powdercan help to clearup a fungal infection on a rabbit.
