Hey there everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted… Georgia and Smokey’s surgeries went GREAT and they are totally bonded and happier than ever now. Today, life decided to throw us a little curve ball… my husband saw this guy in our back yard. I went outside and he came right up to me. He feels like a Rex or some other super soft/dense coat breed but his coat is in poor condition. He has a lot of matting and appears to have been outside for quite a long time. His teeth look decent. He is very friendly. We are calling him Dale. He appears to be litter trained.

We have posted online to see if someone is missing him, no one has posted in our area that he is lost as of right now. We have decided if no one comes forward that we will try to keep him and integrate him into the bunny brigade. I just had questions about if anyone else has experience with things like this? We plan to get him into the vet for an evaluation and get him neutered as soon as possible if we are keeping him but I am unaware on how dynamics work with two males and a female?

Also, how long should I be keeping him quarantined for? I don’t want him to get Smokey and Georgia ill but he is currently in the farthest room away from them in our baby nursery and I was just curious how long it’s recommended until I can ~safely~ move him a little closer to them.

Thanks for all your help as always y’all!!! I’ve included what pictures I have, excuse the belly. I’m 8 months pregnant lol.

**ALSO any tips on removing matting appreciated!

Trios can be hard. They won't always work and can risk affecting the bond of the current pair, but also not completely impossible. With the right rabbits and the right personalities, a trio can work out. I had a trio for a short time, but mine was two females and a male. So it really just depends on the rabbits.

But do be prepared for your current pair possibly reacting to the smell and presence of a new rabbit in the home. It can sometimes set off territorial marking and possibly referred aggression. The safest quarantine would be for a month, but I would give at least a minimum of 2 weeks. Though depending on their reaction to his smell, you may need to make his move closer to them more gradual, starting with scent swapping items(once quarantine is over).

It might also be advisable to do a 10 day course of fenbendazole, for deworming and e. cuniculi prevention, since the bun has been outdoors. When you get him in for his preneuter check, the vet should be able to help you with this, or at least check a fecal sample to see if it's needed.

I think someone recently posted a good tip to help tease matting out. I'll see if I can manage to remember the thread. Or maybe the same person will see this thread and post their tip.

What a lucky bun to pick your back yard to venture into 🥰

We’ve been working on combing this matting out today and found this on the bottom on his feet… it is not poo.. anyone have any ideas on what this may be?

Poor Dale did have an abscess and he has a little infection in his nasal area but thankfully no pneumonia. They drained the abscess and he's coming home with some antibiotics and pain medicine. Thank god for good vets. 👍 And thank you for suggesting abscess! They were able to get him in quicker with that concern!
