Hej!

Short story;
I am moving from Oslo to the UK and i am bringing my 11months old flemish giant.
The only way to get there is a ca 2,15h flight. And because of his size he can not fly in the cabin so he must travel in cargo.
He is a sterdy, curious and brave bunny and have traveled on trains, bus and railbus before without any problem.
But that is different, then I was always with him and it was never for such a long period of time.
The vet said that it could be a good idea to give medicine for the stress., and tomorrow I am going to find a rabbit specialist (that can safely distribute the medicin).
Anyone have experience with anything like this?
I am off course very scared already, and belive me, I have thought this trough long and hard and I'm not going to change my mind. He is coming with me .
What I need from you fellow bunny lovers is to share you're thoughts and experiences with me, so that I can be so responsible as possible and make my bunny's life as good as I can.
Please remember to be constructive.

(Btw. Please excuse my spelling and language; English is not my first language and I'm writing without autocorrect!.)

I haven't ever flown a rabbit, but I do know others have flown theirs cargo and it worked out fine. Biggest thing is making sure your bun is eating, drinking, and pooping normally once the flight is over and when you are to your destination. If not, it would be a good idea to have an experienced rabbit vet picked out in your new area in case you have to get your bun seen right away.

I'm not sure I would want my rabbit being given sedating medication without me or anyone there closely monitoring my rabbit. It seems too risky to me. I don't think it's something I would risk having done and would just fly my rabbit the way they are, fully alert. But that's just my preference. I don't know if sedation is something that is just normally done or not.

The start and end of the flight will probably be a bit stressful for a rabbit, but once the flight is underway I would imagine they get used to it and settle right down, provided there isn't also a noisy dog in a crate next to them(which might be something to ask the airline about).

Oh Bjornmor! You must be very stressed! I’m sorry I have no advice either. I’ve never flown with a rabbit. Can you please keep us updated on how you and your rabbit handle it?

Off topic but I visited Norway a couple years ago and fell in love with it. What a fantastic country. I’m still trying to talk my boyfriend into immigrating there.

Instead of flying is it possible to rent a car, drive to France then take the Chunnel? It would make the trip much longer but at least you could be with your Rabbit the entire time and keep an eye on her
