So a couple days ago I was petting my bunny when I noticed his ears were flaking… I freaked out because I dread for him to have mites. The first time he had it was because I took him outside in a grassy area and he caught them. But this time it’s different because it’s not around his body and he doesn’t have a bald spot like the first time around. This time it’s only in his outside ear area. So I took him to the vet and he said he’s seen this in other rabbits but doesn’t think it’s mites. He told me he doesn’t know what it is but gave my bun 1 dose of Revolution in case just for my peace of mind. I’m still freaked out and pretty much threw everything out and got him a new rug and everything just in case. What could it be though??? Anyone know if it actually is mites? I don’t know if it’s because he’s been molting a lot or due to his hair brush having old fur and brushing his ears with it??? I hate this :(

If there isn't dandruff of flaking anywhere else and no fur loss, especially near the nape of the neck, then it could just be dry skin.

My buck Storm's shedding at the ears goes like this-
His black base coat turns lighter brown so i know it's ready to come off and i gently pull at it, and that's when he gets some flaky skin too, just in that spot. Underneath, the skin isn't irritated or broken, nothing moving out there, and i often see the tiniest strands of new hair growing in.
If your bun is similar to this, and if the vet said it doesn't look like mites, i wouldn't stress too much about it. Just keep an eye out that the skin would eventually regrow the fur.

My rabbit is currently being treated for ringworm, and it started as flaky skin like dandruff on the outside of her ears. Looked just like dry skin/dandruff, so a vet check is always a good idea!
