I know I've made a few posts about this before but I haven't found an answer. My holland lop, Linus has had eye discharge since I got him in May. It looks white and is causing the fur around his eyes to be matted and hard.

I've taken him to the vet multiple times. The last time I was there she gave me artificial tears and ointment to put in his eyes, I'll post a picture. It says to use for a week and I did that but didn't see any changes or results. Is this some sort of infection or are his eyes going to be like this all the time? Is there a way to get the matting to stop? The vet told me to use a wash cloth but it didn't work because the fur is so hard. She also mentioned he could just have sensitive eyes. I do show him and may take him to the state fair and I want to make sure he's healthy so he doesn't get disqualified. Any input would be great :)

Looks like the same thing that's wrong with my Ivy she has pink eye I get Camille tea and boil some and bath her eye In it tho it's wierd ure vet can't find anything that works for your bun are you sure it's an exotic animal vet because some vets are only knowledgeable when it comes to cats or dogs and not exotic pets like bunnies or rats or birds.
Good luck hope bunny feels better

If your rabbit is continuing to have thick white discharge despite treatment with the antibiotic ointment, there is likely more going on with the eye than a simple eye infection. You could ask the vet to try a different antibiotic eye drop and you may need to give oral antibiotics as well. It could also be that the tear ducts need to be flushed, so the vet should check that too. But if that doesn't work you will likely need to have xrays of the head done to check if an infected tooth might be linked to the eye infection.

If your vet is saying white discharge might just be from sensitive eyes, then you need to find a different vet. White discharge always means there is some sort of bacterial infection. And especially if there are dental problems involved, you really want a vet that knows what they are doing, even if you have to travel a distance to see them.

It would really be best to not attempt to show this rabbit until you have resolved his health problems.
