A relative by marriage just died. She & my relative married in the spring of 1939, yes, over 70 years ago. He survives. Can you imagine!!
 
That's awesome!

My grandparents just hit 64 years this month. For me to be married that long, I would have to get hitched RIGHT NOW and still live to be 87. Crazy!
 
1939 was right before WWII, so he was gone for part of their early years of marriage. They'd already had their oldest daughter.

I feel bad for her widower, my relative. Both were already in a nursing home. My father was 84 when Mom died. He lost a lot of weight when she was sick & lived only 3 years longer. His father had been 94. Not that I would have wanted Mom to go earlier, but I wonder if he'd have lived longer if she had. But of course what happens, happens.
 
Awww. I can't help but feel bad for him. To lose someone that was your other half for 70 or so years... ouch. Much love to you and yours.
