Hello. I'm new to this forum. I have 2 bunny sisters (3 months). We got them each about a week apart. They've been together for almost 1 month now. However, yesterday morning we had to separate them. Fighting and lots of fur flying. They were getting along great and never noticed aggressive behavior (a little in the beginning as we bonded them) until recently. I am wondering if they are getting aggressive towards each other over pellets? They are in a decent pen with separate litter boxes and huts - however the pellet bowls are joined together. I haven't tried to put them together yet or separating the pellet bowls. They are too young to get spayed yet. Should I keep them apart until they get spayed or try bonding again with separate pellet bowls?

They're maturing and becoming hormonal. It's common for problems to start happening at this time. They need to be kept separate, then if you want to try and bond them again, they will need to both be spayed(usually at 4-6 months old, depending on the vet), wait 2-4 weeks for recovery and hormones to fade, then go through the proper bonding process.

Just be aware there are no guarantees they will rebond. Rabbits change when they mature, and where they once got along as babies, that doesn't always hold true for when they become adults. For rabbits to properly bond as adults, once they are fixed and the hormones removed from the equation, it's all about matching compatible personalities.

In other words, if they are both bossy dominant rabbits, it's unlikely you will be able to rebond them. Female/female is one of the harder matches to make, but there's always the possibility it can work out. I've had f/f matches that worked out perfectly, and others that were impossible to bond. You just never now until you actually start the process.
