Help. George has his surgery at 10am today. The vet said he had eaten, peed and pooped before he released him to me. He has acted fairly normal, eaten and I believe I saw him drinking, but I gave him some lettuce and I realize they inject them with fluids, so not worried if he’s not drinking YET. But just as I’m getting ready to go to bed I realize I haven’t seen any poop or pee in his cage. Should I be concerned and/or when should I be concerned?? The vet, who is a highly recommended bunny vet specialist, indicated he shouldn’t need any pain meds, so I was sent home without any. Anyway, on the one hand it’s nice not seeing any poop/pee in his cage, but I’m concerned not seeing any poop/pee in his cage.

Nothing to worry about as long your bunny have started to eat and drink, the poop and pee will come later. But it’s good you kept an eye on him.

You will see droppings maybe later after he have eaten more food and started to eat more hay.

Thank you so much! I just went and checked on him and there is plenty for me to clean up today. I’m going to regret having ever been concerned; rather than enjoying the reprieve. Maybe you have experience with this, but George normally has free roam of the house. The vet said he should stay in a cage for 7 days, but I keep seeing on-line saying 2-3 days. Thoughts? That and I wasn’t send home with painkiller, the vet indicated what he gave him would stick with him 24 hours. I realize pain killer for us can have its own set of issues and get that, just hate for the little guy to hurt.

My boy took a few days until he was back to normal. I didn’t get any pain killers but after resting in the cage for 5 days, he started to binky and run around crazily.

I first let him out a few hours running around when it had gone a week and kept it like that for a month. Because I didn’t want him to accidentally be shoved or kicked.

Just keep an extra eye on him and that the wound heal nicely during the first week. If everything look good you can let him free roam later. You can easily keep an eye on them when they are in a controlled environment and also keep that place cleaner ☺️

Glad he seems to be recovering OK. The only thing you need to worry about when free roaming right now is jumping on stuff and running up and down the stairs. Personally I would never keep a bunny in a cage for 7 days. I had a bunny who had had a gastrotomy (much more serious than neutering!) and he was never in a cage. I'm really annoyed your vet didn't give you painkiller to give at home. They should have a good dose of painkiller twice a day for a few days after neutering.

Thank you! He’s looking good! So cute to catch him sleeping; I’ve never seen him asleep. ❤️

Thank you! Yeah, he is fearless and would be running stairs if I let him. Thank you!
