Hi! I have 3 unconfirmed males, one of them keeps biting the others bums and chasing them around their hutch and pen. He also makes the grunting noises, I was wondering if it is just a behavioural thing? I know they bite eachother when their bored but there are no excuses for boredrom with how their homes are. The other 2 kind of squat down and put their head down looking scared. Please let me know if you have a solid opinion.

Rabbits don't bite each other because they're bored. They nip to establish dominance or tell another rabbit to move. They bite(true biting) due to aggression or fear, to get rid of the other rabbit or kill the other rabbit.

If your rabbits aren't neutered, they're behaving hormonally. The nipping is probably your one rabbit trying to get your other rabbits to allow him to mate with them. They need to be separated until they have all been neutered, wait 6-8 weeks for hormones to fade, then go through a proper bonding process. Though no guarantees they will bond. Rabbits decide who they like. Some personalities just aren't compatible.

If you don't separate, you risk very serious, even fatal, injuries occurring. Hormonal male rabbits will often attempt to eviscerate and kill rival males. If they aren't all males, you could still end up with serious injuries, and also pregnant does. Right now your other rabbits aren't fighting back, but if they get sick of your one male pestering them all of the time, all hell can break loose, and you could end up with your rabbits severely injured.

So if you want to try to keep your rabbits in a group and bonded: first separate, neuter, wait, then attempt rebonding properly.

Thank you so much! I have definitely witnessed aggressive mating before where the female did not allow the male to, it isn’t at the same level that’s for sure but It’s hard to figure out exactly who’s doing it or if it’s multiple! as there are 3, I have separated them 1 by 1 since and so far 2 of the bunnies have been chasing this 1 bunny in particular which in the past and present I think has some body issues as he is really boney but the vet did an examination and all was fine, it is quite small than the other 2 as I wasn’t intending to get them neutered I’m going to take them to a different vet to get there sexes determined and/or a different opinion. I’m trying to locate an online vet where they could either come to my house or FaceTime as I know roughly what I’m doing but it’s more identifying the sex, thank you so much for your help it calmed me a lot!
