Broken Leg, trying Cage Rest and pain meds

My 7 year old Dwarf mix broke his femur. The vet said we could try this or go straight to amputation. We will see him in two weeks, and X ray will tell if it’s healing. He is maybe 6-7 years old.
He is bonded to another bun, so we give them some supervised visitation. He just sits still, occasionally moving a bit. He is eating and drinking, peeing and pooping where he sits. We are keeping him clean and dry.
Anyone experience this? You can see his leg is splayed out.

I had a rabbit that had a broken bone in his hind foot. It did heal, but some splinting of the foot was done. Cage rest can work, but it all depends on the location of the break and how the rabbit responds to the treatment.
