Hi, my buns have been bonded since the first day they met. It is obvious when they are worried that they go to one another for comfort. I have had them for almost 2 years, and they have never been separated except during a vet visit when one is on the table and the other is not.
My girl has to have some xrays done, and the vet wants me to leave my other bunny at home. She said they will be fine for a few hours. My concern is that the car ride is an hour to an hour and a half and stressful, and then the vet visit will be for 2 - 3 hours.
Everything I read says to never separate a bonded pair. Any thoughts?

You are 100% right that you shouldn’t separate your bonded pair due to the strange smells that one rabbit will pick up while at the vets causing confusion when you try and put them back together. If this happened to me I would consider a different vet if possible if they aren’t flexible on this. It’s a bit worrying that they don’t recognise why this is important but you could try and explain to see if they will reconsider. A broken bond can be very difficult you really don’t want to risk that if you can avoid it.

Don't separate them until absolutely necessary. You can bring the other rabbit along for the ride, into the room, and only separate them once they take her back for x-rays. Let your vet know that you do not want to separate them and that you will be bringing the other rabbit too.

Thank you so much for your input. I am so bummed because I really liked this vet. She is an exotic specialist and it is all her clinic sees. Her advice to leave my other bun at home really did not sit right, and if she does not agree to let him come, then I will have to be looking for a new vet. I know I am over protective of them, so it is good to get perspective from others!
