Hey! So my Lionhead doe gave birth 9 days ago... she had 6 babies but I pulled the nest because 4 of them froze after they fell out after feeding. I’ve been bringing mom in everyday at the same time to feed. Now her babies started out healthy, the 2 that I have are not growing, they are bony and ill looking. When they were first born did not look like peanuts, they are 8 days old and are lively- but still look sick. I’m not sure if they could be faders since they are usually recognized when they are older.

I've known of kits that were thought to be faders and the owners figured out the kits had a health condition that just needed to be treated with the correct med. The kits were treated, survived, and improved til they would be considered normal. In both cases the kits were treated for internal parasites with Safeguard liquid goat dewormer(fenbendazole), and started to turn around after that. Though I will say the kits were at least 4 weeks old when they were treated.

All 'fader' means is that a kit has an undiagnosed health condition causing ill thrift and a retarded growth rate. So doesn't necessarily mean it can't get better if you can figure out what's causing the reduced growth and if there's a treatment. Some health issues will be treatable, but it also follows that some may not be.
