Hello my name is Laura I have a Male dwarf rabbit that is 14 years old I recently noticed a lump under his paw and took him to a local vet about 2 months ago they took a sample and informed me that it was a lipoma and might cause mobility issues but removal is risky due to his age. The lump has doubled and became heavy so I found a specialist in Williamsburg va and have an appointment Monday. The lump doesn't seem to cause him pain he just loses his balance sometimes but still hoops and plays as usual and he has no signs of pain what is the best option for him given his age ?

I think you will have to trust the vet on this one. If the lump is fast growing, it might be better to remove it, because the smaller the lump, the easier it will be to take off. If the vet doesn't think he can survive the operation, he should tell you that. The oldest rabbit I had that went under anesthetic was 12. He had a dental and came out fine. He was a standard Satin, but smaller breeds usually have a longer life expectancy. If the vet doesn't think that your rabbit can make it through surgery, I would leave it alone, and consider putting him to sleep if his condition ever becomes painful enough to destroy his quality of life.

I would have your vet be very frank with you about his odds with anesthesia. It’s NOT worth losing him if he can still get around. I had a goose that had his leg amputated. He did very well for a long time. But when it was time for a second surgery. I told the dr. Yes or no. Will he make it He said no so we went home. Good luck
