Do you sort through your hay?

Yeah theres quite a few stockfeeders around, I’ve compiled a list of the most recommended places but now it’s just a matter of finding the time to make the trek to all these places. Hopefully I’ll strike gold!

Do you sort through your hay?

Yes I’ve heard many people order hay online but due to the pandemic I can’t order anything into my country so I guess I have to stick to local stock.

Do you sort through your hay?

I’ve tried buying loose hay from a place that sells bales (as it was $1/kg, score!) except it wasn’t a score because I spent 6 days sorting through the 5kg (only cost $5) of hay and inhaling mouldy hay, giving me a dry cough. Yep. I must have thrown out half of the bag as it was just bad bad...

    Mouldy Hay

Oh yuck! I also doubt that :/ That’s all good! It is quite unfortunate that I brought it home but luckily the store exchanged the bad bag!

    Mouldy Hay

Yes! I store my hay in an Ikea bag (easy store transport with minimal mess haha) in a big plastic storage container with no lid as well. The mould was visible before I had opened the bag and I’d only brought it home for a few days so I think it was like that from the store. I’ve seen black mould...

    Bald spot, bit of blood

Just an update! Yesterday I was patting Dylan and felt something bumpy under his fur and he sprinted away when I tried to investigate. I immediately brought him to the vet and, yep he had a reaction to the calicivirus vaccine. The bump I felt was scabbing on his skin. He’s got a shaved patch...

    Bald spot, bit of blood

Thanks for the reply! I thought it might have something to do with the vaccine, though they didn’t have a reaction to the first shot  but I’ll definitely monitor the bald patch and if it does not start healing I’ll ring the vet

    Small, dark and hard poops

If she is still eating the hay, accepting treats, drinking water, and playing around I’d say just monitor her poops for the time being.

    Bald spot, bit of blood

Hi all, I’ve just noticed my rabbit Dylan has a circle patch of missing fur about 2cm/just under an inch in diameter on his back :( . His skin is quite pink. There is regrowth of short furs on one half of the bald patch. The other half is bare, and there is a line of scab/blood around the...

    Mouldy Hay

I just wanted to share some photos of mouldy hay incase anyone suspects their hay might be bad! Mine had a funky smell to it (sort of like diluted rabbit pee), and it felt quite waxy. The black spots are most definitely mould, if you see that on your hay please do not feed it to your rabbits!!
