    rabbit keeping

I use both litter and fleece for my rabbits. I put pelleted wood litter and hay in their poop boxes and towels, fleece, and rugs (one on top of the other, in that order) in their bed boxes. They mostly pee where the hay is, but they like to leave a few marks in the bed, as well. I would say...

    Shelf in dog crate?

I like to use wire kitchen racks, or even regular plastic shelving would fit. You might also be able to make use of "cubes" in a cage like this, with some zip ties. I use all of the above in our main rabbit [x]pen. (This is a cage I have set up for a special needs rabbit.)

Finally got her a big cage!

I love it! My rabbit's first cage he had when I got him was two wire dog kennels put together. He had a kitchen and a bedroom. I kept his bed, levels, and a rug in his bedroom and the kitchen was bare bottomed with litterbox, water bottle, hay, and food. It was nice because then I could...

    About your bunnies :D

I have had Jasper since he was 7 weeks old. I got him from a hobby breeder at the fair over the summer, and he has an excellent temperament. He is such a dream and exactly what I was looking for. His birthday is May 23rd, which makes him 6 months old. He looks black and white, but he...

    My stinky bunny

I actually just read the other day that cottontails cannot breed with domestic rabbits, but domestics can breed with wild rabbits that are found in Europe. After all, the domestic rabbit does not descend from cottontails. If anything, your rabbit is just feeling broody and/or having a false...

    Interesting "Franken-cage"

And of course, here's Jasper and Ella, the two sweetest bunnies in the world (to me). They deserve it. Jasper. <3

    Interesting "Franken-cage"

If no one has heard of the term "Franken-cage," it refers to a cage comprised of several different cages or cage parts put together to make one large cage. Like many Americans, I am considered poor and I also have four children. This doesn't stop me though, from doing what I love to do. I...

Minnesota Question for Rabbit Owners! Where do you shop?

I live in Moorhead, MN, so closer to ND, but I shop at Fleet Farm. You can get hay, litter, bedding, cages, etc. in bulk so it's insanely cheap (and still good quality). Farm goods stores, ftw. The only thing I buy from the pet store for my rabbit is good quality dry pellets which Fleet Farm...

    Cleaning a Messy Pen

I would say your rabbit is only at risk of getting sore feet if he's sitting in urine, which can eat away at the fur and skin. Also probably at a higher risk if your rabbit is obese and/or sits around a lot. Keep your bun healthy and clean, offer it space to run around, and offer a variety of...

    Big enough?

Lol that's quite a bit of space! What's the recommended amount of space for a rabbit cage, anyhow?

    Cleaning a Messy Pen

Forgot to add: You will want a transport cage or holding pen of sorts for your rabbit. Might as well get one now. Cat carriers work well. In the meantime you can have someone hold the rabbit or keep him in the bathroom/bathtub while you clean. A cardboard box works, too.

    Cleaning a Messy Pen

You could use a different material besides fleece; there are cheap rugs you can get that have a slippery quality, so hay doesn't stick. You could just shake it off every couple of days and/or vacuum it. Personally, I would just use a hard surface and sweep every day. Offer a contained...

Do you think a rabbit's right for me?

Can I just give this post some applause? Wonderful insight. I'd have enjoyed that when I was younger. I still enjoy it now. Those are excellent points to consider, especially if you have parents which might not want any extra pets around (personally, it doesn't bother me, but that's because...

Do you think a rabbit's right for me?

Hi Eliza! First of all, can I just say a few things? It's really nice to see more homeschooled children. I plan to homeschool/unschool my own. You definitely seem way ahead of your peers (and also many adults lol)...I would have never guessed that you were only 11-12 years old had you not...

    Xpen ideas

You can always make a lid for it too. I would say just draping a blanket over it would do the trick; you could also cut a piece of fabric/mesh to size and use binder clips to secure it around the edges.

    Toys for a Small Bun

I suppose it depends on the size and shape of the item in question. However, the way I see it, hard plastic can break/shatter into sharp little shards, and soft plastic can be whittled down into tiny, innocuous pieces. When a single shard is swallowed, the chances of it [fatally] wreaking...

Back with a new bunny and some questions!

Okay, so you're saying they're pretty good at determining what is poisonous and what is not? That's a relief. One more question - the grass around here has gone to seed, does it matter where it is in its life cycle? Can bunny be given the seeds as well? Well, I'm mostly referring to the...

    Are females terrible?

Between the sexes, I've only ever had female rabbits be aggressive towards me. However, they still all craved attention and face rubs, including the unspayed, cage aggressive one. And they all had their little quirks. I definitely didn't have preference over one or the other. In general...
