Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, I need to find a new home for Gunston and Whidbey.
Gunston and Whidbey were 2 of 80 rabbits rescued from an animal hoarder about 2 years ago.
Gunston is quick to warm up to you (if you have treats...) and Whidbey will usually follow Gunston's...
Two part question:
- How much would you expect to pay in a medical emergency?
- How much would be willing to pay to treat your bunny?
I know most people here would do everything they can to save or treat their rabbit. But the unfortunate reality is that there is a limit.
The reason...
I'm trying to get everything ready for Gunston and Whidbey's vacation.
I've written up their eating habits and treat likes/dislikes. I'm also giving their foster mom a link to this site. In case of emergency, she'll be taking them to her local vet (they specialize in rabbits, and my usual...
As you may know, in trying to find a foster family for my bunnies for 3 months. I just had a potential caretaker contact me, and said she could take them but their cage would be in a heated garage.
My initial concern is if they park in the garage the fumes. But if not, is there anything else I...
Hi Everyone,
I need to find a foster family (preferably here in Virginia) for my bunnies for the end of January through April. I will be away on military orders.
Gunston and Whidbey have had a rough start to life so are a bit shy but will warm up to you. But they do tend to do better in...
I've been feeding my bunnies one brand of pellets since I got them, mostly because it was the only type I could find.
I think it's Purina's Complete Natural AdvantEdge. (I don't have a bag here because I dump the food into another container)
I just discovered that the pet store close to me...
Yesterday, our other Hoomin came home. He's been gone since before mommy brought me and Whidbey home, so we never met him before.
Mommy was really happy, but we weren't so sure. We stayed hidden all day. And wouldn't even come out when mommy tried to bribe us with crasins.
He was nice to us...
... but I hate feeding them. The hay makes me sneeze, my eyes itch, my throat itches and my skin gets all red and itchy where ever it touches.
It's not normally too bad, but I'm right at the end of a bag, so it's dustier than usual. More dust = worse reaction.
So, I may be leaving my bunnies in my husband's care for 3 months (haven't decided if I'll do that or find a foster for them while I'm gone).
I know he'll be fine with feeding them, cleaning their cage, and giving them attention. What I'm not sure about is if he'll be comfortable trimming...
Do you know a small mammal rescue group (gerbils, rabbits, rats, hamsters, etc)? If so, please pass this on to them...a special ASPCA Grant for $25K ...and the deadline is 12/7/12.

I'm thinking of changing Whidbey's name.
I never really liked it, but picked it since it went with Gunston (they're both US Navy ships - we're a Navy family).
I'm thinking Skipper (Navy slang for Captain).
He doesn't respond to his name, so I'm not worried about confusing him...
I was gone for 5 days for Thanksgiving. I had a bunny sitter come by my house twice a day to take care of my pets. She left notes after every visit and from what she said everything seems fine.
Last night, when I got home I fed them and they ate everything like normal (pellets and lettuce...
So I go away for a couple days (had a bunny sitter) and noticed when I got back last night, Whidbey's ears were back to really dark, shiny black :) He feet are still a little gray, but I expect them to change soon.
I don't know which I like better, the light gray or black....
Gunston's...
I've had my bunnies for nearly 8 months. And, you'd think I just brought them home from the shelter yesterday.
They spend all their time hiding from me. For a while Gunston would come out and stand up for treats. He's stopped doing that, though he will at least take a treat from me if I...
Gunston here.
I gots my shelf back
Still no dig box, mom said dirt was too messy and we just eats paper. So if any of your humons have ideas, they should tell my humon so I can haf something to dig in.
Gunston here.
Whidbey and I moved today. Mom took away the goggie crate wez lived in and moved us into the x-pen. She said she didn't like Whidbey being alble to hide out of reach :confused2:
Our new pen is long and narrow so wez can run :biggrin2: but I'm not sure what I finks about not...
I'm thinking of remodeling the bunny house.
I'd like to primarily use an x-pen which is part of their current cage. But, I need to figure out a floor. Their cage is on a wood floor, which poses two problems:
1. I'd like to have a little protection from their antics, since we rent this...
