Pretty little Melody Elizabeth is finally starting to realize I'm not going to eat her.

    Any way to determine age?

The lady we got Melody Elizabeth from had no idea. She said 5 weeks, but Melody is obviously older than that. Is there any way to tell how old she is, or is it just guess work if you don't actually have a birthday?

it's been a looong time, and a lot's changed, so i'll reintroduce myself.

when i joined rabbits online, i had 2 buns, a jersey woolie named rue and a flemmie mix named nut puppet. summer before last was record-breakingly hot. we had 63 days above 100*, with at least 85% humidity. 27 of those days were above 110*. it was insane. our crappy ac in our crappy house...

    well this is..... awkward

we came home from the park this evening, and found kimo in a... compromised... position. we have thermal curtains on our windows, and they trap the heat nicely, giving him a great place to bask. i saw him like this, and just couldn't stop laughing!

    just say no

last night, i got an email from rue's breeder. she knows we were wanting a holland lop, and she emailed me to let me know she has two new litters about ready to go. otters, torts, chestnuts.... *sigh* so much adorableness, i could just melt! oh, how i want one! but i will be strong. right now, a...

    oh sweet rue

i decided to wait a little longer to have the boys snipped, and rue has recently hit puberty big time. he no longer even tolerates being picked up, so when i scooped him up to return him to his cage last night, i expected some kicks and grumbles and a generally unhappy rabbit. instead, he...

    is this a showable color?

i came across a craigslist ad today, someone selling a blue magpie jersey wooly for a *very* large amount of money. they say they are selling it for so much because it is a show rabbit. i've never heard of a jersey wooly this color before, and was wondering if it was actually an accepted color?

    storing hay outside?

i found a nearby feed store that has big bales of alfalfa for $10, which is great since i was tired of spending $5 on a tiny little bag of alfalfa that only lasts a few days. problem is, i have nowhere inside to store it. i do have a mostly enclosed porch i could put it on, where it would stay...

    show me your fluffy buns!

does your rabbit look like a living, breathing dust bunny? do you have people ask you, "is it real??" if you have fluffy buns, post them here! my first ever rabbit was a fuzzy lop. i love lionheads. i have a jersey wooly. someday, i may be brave enough for an english angora! i just posted new...

rue goes out, and puppet plays trains

i took rue outside for a little bit earlier. our yard is securely fenced, but there are areas that i don't want her going, so i have to watch her like a hawk. i can't wait till i can get them a playpen so they can spend more time out with us! she absolutely loved it. digging in the grass...

    is she black or what?!

what color *is* rue? her face is black, but her body is gray- almost white at the base. her eyes are brown, and the fur at the base of her neck definitely has a brownish tinge. 043 by dragyn_flye, on Flickr

    holland, mini, french?

aside from size, is there any difference in the lop breeds? i mean, the conformation of an english lop is obviously very different, but are there differences in the other lops?

is this big enough for both of them?

my husband brought home a nice, big piece of wood to use as the base of rue's cage. it's almost perfectly sized for a 3x3 grid cage, with a shelf in one corner (made of 3 squares). square footage wise, it's a little bit smaller than rue's previous setup, which was 2 squares by 7 squares. will it...

nut puppet lives up to his name!

i just walked in to the hall, to find nut puppet hanging out in the laundry bin! it's a tall bin, with a small opening, bought *specifically* to keep the cats from jumping in. didn't stop puppet, though! i swear, when he's out, i can't go five minutes without laughing! 001 by dragyn_flye...

    rue-dini!

i have an escape artist on my hands! yesterday, nut puppet was running amok in the living room. i heard the click click click of a water bottle coming from the playroom. since rue has a water bowl in her cage, i went to investigate. sure enough, there was rue, sitting in puppet's cage, drinking...

    my husband is crazy!

this morning, david asked when we were going to go see the new holland lops so we could pick ours out. i reminded him that we now *had* two rabbits, and that i had taken our name off the list with the breeder. his response was, "well why did you do that?! we could still get another! one more...

what happens when your three year old helps you pick a name?

you end up with the "compromise" of attila the nut puppet bun. yeah...... but hey, a big bun needs a big name, right?! maybe 'cause he's bigger, but he is much easier to photograph than rue. i cannot get over his fantabulous ears! ignore goose's soaking wet shirt, she was washing her...

    flemish giant neuter

attila the bun is almost 4 months old. he is scheduled for a neuter on may 22. someone just suggested i might want to wait until he was older and more mature to have him snipped. i can't find any info anywhere saying i should wait, but i wanted to see what those more knowledgeable think!
