Bun looking for home Duluth, MN

Have an older tan mini-rex looking for a new home. She is fixed and about 5 years old. She is sweet, but doesn't get enough attention.

    pellet bedding

I have tried a few kinds of pellets and the main difference I notice is how the pellets break down when they get wet. The animal pellets / softwood pellets seem to fluff a bit more then wood stove / hardwood pellets, but it didn't seem to make any difference in how much they absorbed. I am...

    Need help with new cage!

Use a litter box with wood stove pellets, CHEAP $5 for 40lbs, this will reduce wasted litter and keep litter costs down. You can also get indoor/outdoor carpet scraps fairly cheap (no rubber backing). also the more things you try the more your cage will change to fit your needs.

    best way to protect wires??

The loom stuff is nice, but if your bun does chew it, PVC pipe works all the time. Get BIG 1.5" pipe and run wires right through it. The issues with PVC are the lack of flexibility and cost.

OK. So what's the CORRECT way to raise a rabbit?

I think it is like just about any other animal with few dietary restrictions. Find what works. The only thing I think is constant unlimited water. Personally I like unlimited pellets, hay, and water; using veggies as a special food/treat. Have to be careful since it seems many bunnies will...

    What's your litter of choice?

Woodstove pellets. $5 for 40lbs. I have found that keeping the pellets spread thin in a larger box does help with the smell since they can dry out. If they stay clumped and wet it can be an issue. As long as it is changed every 2-3 days it seems fine.

    Housing and environment

I think you are going to find most people will suggest building a cage. Personally I went through a series of cages before I started to build them. The best store bought cage I had was the largest wire dog crate from a wal-mart. Cost was about $80 USD. The issue I had with it was that it...

    Flemish Giant NIC Questions

I am certain you could make it a 2 level condo, but you will need to use dowels for stability and support. Also you will probably need multiple doors, but I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done. It might just be my Flemmish, but she doesn't do levels at all. She sticks to the ground...

Request for help in designing a great hutch/tray/cage

Potential Issues: If your floor has raised traction that would distort the clear bottom and if it is just non-slip that could make it very hard to clean. Also it would have to be raised to see under it. Seems overly hard, when I could just pickup my bun and look at the feet. Size: 1m x 1m...

I need to find a good chicken/Rabbit catching net? Any ideas

For use of pet buns I am not sure if I would try a net, but I would imagine solid cloth working better since a bun or chicken would be less likely to get a toe caught in the material. Might also need some small vent holes at the top of the net so you can move it faster. I think for...

How happy are you with your rabbits behaviorial characterstics?

Binks (RIP) : Was good bunny. Didn't like being picked up, but had reasonable litterbox habits. Also couldn't be frightened, fast moves and load noises right by his face never even phased him. Gigi: A good bun. Good litterbox habits, but will dig if given an overly large litterbox. Very...

Monty, my [big] baby bunny 2012

I LOVE Flemmies. Monty looks very cute. They grow up so fast. Have you also noticed that they just stop seeming big to you until someone points it out?

    Newbie questions. :)

A vote for adoption. 1. Adoption is CHEAPER! Yes the initial cost can be high compared to an unfixed bun, but getting a bun fixed can be costly. And most shelter bun will come already fixed. Adoption where I went was $80 USD this bun was already fixed. Getting one of my non-adopted buns...

Bunny ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to be held

Yeah, some buns don't take to being lifted. I have found that the main issue my buns had/have is not so much with the holding portion (they have their weight on their feet), but more with lifting. You said you are lifting your bun 'out' of a cage. Instead I would try to start with lifting...

    Dirty bum?

Some bun's bums seem to need a bit of cleaning. Once it the hair is matted badly I say cutting it is best. Be careful! Use safety scissors (the rounded ends keep you from stabbing your bun should decide to move suddenly. Always make sure you have something between the skin and the scissors (I...

    Too fuzzy?

2 Liter soda bottles are my goto for freezing. Just squeeze a bit before capping. Also if you have enough frozen bottles you can use some large plastic bins to make an "air conditioned" space for your bun. Good luck keeping cool.

Adopted a new rabbit today. Don't know what it is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherland_Dwarf The first pic on the wiki looks like your buns second pic. VERY CUTE! I love the colouring.

Questions for those with giant breeds?

I have a Flemmish Giant (19 lbs). She is a fairly lazy bun. LOVES to stretch out on the couch and watch tv with me. Will happily stay there for hours getting head pets and grooming. She doesn't tend to move fast, can be VERY quick if frightened. She used to be very skittish, but would never...
