Fostering bunny - torn about adopting her myself

She is my first foster bunny, after having adopted Ula and having her for 8 years. I was open to adopting or fostering, although my financial position right now is precarious and fostering was attractive because all expenses are covered. I feel like my ability to let go would depend on the...

Fostering bunny - torn about adopting her myself

The bonding process is done through the rescue and if it doesn't go well, she will end up back with me and I would just adopt her. There is also another bun at the rescue in the running and basically whichever girl bun works out with the potential adopter's boy bun would go home with that...

Fostering bunny - torn about adopting her myself

Hi everyone, I could use some objective advice on this situation. My own bunny Ula died in the summer due to old age and many separate but interrelated issues that started to manifest in her elderbun years. After a good chunk of time mourning her, we decided to foster a bunny through a local...

Dealing with grief after decision to euthanize my little Ula

She was still binkying even up to a few weeks ago, and on Friday she was running circles at my feet. I don't think I waited too long at all. But I worry that because she still had joy in her life so recently, that I made a rash decision. But then, seeing her so listless and lethargic, and...

Dealing with grief after decision to euthanize my little Ula

I haven't posted in a while, as things had generally been fairly good with Ula's health and I found a vet that I really liked. As she was getting older, some problems started to pop up. She had molar spurs that needed annual or bi-annual trims, and she'd have very infrequent seizures which...

    timothy pellets in big bags?

I'm not an expert on horse feed, but I think rabbit pellets are usually fortified with vitamins whereas horse pellets are usually just straight up compressed hays. I'm also not sure about size, but would assume horse pellets are larger.

    timothy pellets in big bags?

Feed stores usually carry low-quality alfafa pellets. I just did a quick search and found this company: http://www.sweetmeadowfarm.com/pel_rabtimothy.html A 50lb bag shipped to your house would cost around $50. Not sure what you're paying now, but they also have smaller bulk bags too. Worth...

    Mixing timothy pellets with alfalfa?

Right now Ula is eating Oxbow Bunny Basics Adult timothy pellets, but she tends to go through cycles of pickiness and will likely refuse to eat it shortly. Her go-to food whenever she becomes finicky is Peter's Maintenance pellets, which is mostly alfalfa based with other hays mixed in. The vet...

Do pasteurella infections clear up on their own normally?

I did see them. I'm not very skilled in reading radiographs, but they pointed out cloudy spots in the lungs, which contrasted her more recent x-ray that had no fuzziness or white spots in the lungs. I'm thinking of switching vets though. There's apparently a more skilled small animal and...

Do pasteurella infections clear up on their own normally?

If it was a respiratory infection, it was asymptomatic. She had x-rays done because she was scheduled to get a molar trim and the vet wanted to make sure she was a safe anaesthesia candidate. The vet said the cloudiness was "moderate". This actually happened last year too -- molar trim...

    Is she pooping at all?

Do pasteurella infections clear up on their own normally?

Ula had some x-rays done a few weeks ago and they showed moderate lung cloudiness. The vet prescribed Baytril, but Ula reacted so badly to it that I stopped it after 2 days. This was about 2 weeks ago. She went for repeat x-rays today and her lungs are totally clear. I'm guessing 2 days of...

Rabbit botfly in my house, in same room as my rabbit...How freaked out should I be?

So I just noticed this giant bumbling fly thing in my living room, going crazy trying to find its way out near the window. It came in because my boyfriend had the front door open. The fly finally stood still long enough for me to look at it...totally, without question, a rabbit-specific botfly...

    Rabbit not eating on Baytril

Okay, she's doing so much better today! She's eating practically everything in sight, and even ate a little pile of pellets I had placed on the carpet where she lounges. She's happy, hopping about, acting like her normal self. So I'm guessing Baytril was to blame. If the cure is worse than...

    Peters Rabbit Pellets

This is what I feed my rabbit, as she refuses to eat any timothy based pellet. My vet is concerned that the calcium content is too high and might cause bladder problems. Ula has gained a bit of weight since she's been on this brand. As of now, she won't eat this brand either due to some GI...

    Rabbit not eating on Baytril

She's still not touching her pellets, but she ate all her cilantro again last night plus a bunch of hay. I'm going to Critical Care her with probiotics tonight (didn't do it last night because she was doing so well)and hope for the best. I hope she didn't permanently lose interest in them. It's...

    Rabbit not eating on Baytril

She's actually binkying right now as I type this. Her fecals have gotten back to normal size due to the quantity of hay she's eating. Still not interested in the pellets, but lots of hay and veggies. Maybe it was the Baytril making her feel genuinely bad? Her stomach was gurgling crazy loud...

    Rabbit not eating on Baytril

She was due for a molar trim. They did x-rays to make sure she was a good okay anesthetic risk and found spots in the lungs that indicate a respiratory infection. I'm probably going to take her to a different vet for a second opinion on her "issues."

    Rabbit not eating on Baytril

I think she's traumatized. She is still sulking/hiding. I stopped the Baytril, but gave her Critical Care laced with Bene-bac and simethicone last night (and oddly, she seemed less upset about that than when I give her Baytril or simethicone straight up). She hate some hay last night, poked at...

    Rabbit not eating on Baytril

Yeah, I've taken her off the Baytril. I'm almost certain her inappetance is caused by stress of administering it. I have a giant exam for my PhD next week and I can't study and write the exam and deal with this at the same time. I'm going to see the vet after and try to reassess a treatment...
